While it comes no surprise to Ford Mustang fans worldwide, the fine folks over at Consumer Reports have concluded the 2011 Mustang is one to make the Top Picks list this year, under the Sporty car category. It’s come as a surprise to some in the news & media field, but c’mon, really? The 5.0 Mustang is back and it’s bad, folks! We’re guessing what seems to be shocking people in the circulars the most is the fact Consumer Reports typically awards such accolades to cars which overly excel practicality and value. What’s more, this is only the 2nd time an American-made automobile has won the Sporty car category. That’s quite amazing! Last time this happened, it was with the Ford Focus SVT back in 2004.

The fine folks over at Motor Trend have taken it upon themselves to make a comparison we (Ford Mustang fans) can really sink our teeth into. In past model years, none have ever seriously considered a comparison between the Ford Mustang and the BMW M3. It never really made sense, as Ford’s finest simply just wasn’t enough to match up to a formidable competitor across the pond.

By now, we’ve all seen the reports on the recent three-month streak for 2010 Ford Mustang sales and how they stack up to the new Chevrolet Camaro…big whoop.  After the novelty wears off, the market will likely wise up once again, as they’ll realize just how high-quality a product the Ford Mustang really is.  Despite the recent disparate sales figures, the revamped 2010 Mustang has taken out the competition yet again the modern-day pony car wars.  Consumer Reports has rated the new Ford Mustang GT as “Very Good” with a score of 78 points, while the Chevrolet Camaro SS achieved a score of “Very Good”, but only managed to rack up 71 points.  The Dodge Challenger R/T skidded by with a “Good” rating and a mere 53 points overall.  Now, we all know that numbers and ratings are one thing, but seriously, get out there and drive a new 2010 Mustang, a Camaro SS, and a Challenger and see for yourself: the new Mustang is refined, yet powerful.  It’s elegant, yet robust, and can even be considered rude when woken up.
