SEMA 2011: MRT ‘TKO’ V6 Ford Mustang Road Racer08 Nov

Most every player in the aftermarket has sought to tweak ‘n tune the Ford Mustang GT, leaving aside a very capable starting package of the Mustang coupe…until now.

MRT Performance debuted their “TKO” 2012 Ford Mustang coupe at the 2011 SEMA show in Las Vegas & yes, it certainly made an impression!  Starting by making this V6 Mustang scream like it’s older brother was only the beginning.  MRT has completely transformed the 2012 Mustang into a full-fledged road racer ready to rip the track apart.

From forced induction to a complete suspension and braking insanity, the TKO has most anything you can fathom to get gobs of grins!  So much of a knock-out punch, the TKO was awarded the 2011 Outstanding SEMA Design Achievement Award.

Keep reading to see just how MRT and their supporters made this project come to life.

2011-sema-hr-springs

The 2011 SEMA show in Las Vegas brought on special editions galore of the famed Ford Mustang, and one more that caught our spied-eye, was the 2012 Mustang “Project Legend” put together by H&R Special Springs LP.  The idea here?  Combine harnessed American muscle with a European styled suspension to make for a car capable of slithering down the Autobahn without missing a beat.

H&R took a 2012 Ford Mustang GT and added a whole host of suspension components to bolster the overall ride and responsiveness of the pony car.  Such add-ons include RSS Club Sport coil-overs and H&R Sway Bars, upgraded tires / wheels, and LOTS more goodies to bolster the power, as well as the appeal of the H&R Springs “Project Legend” Ford Mustang GT.

Check out more detail in the PR that follows!

If you’re out and about at the 2011 SEMA Trade Show in Las Vegas today (through the 4th of November), be sure to locate the Dynapack Dyno booth to check on one serious turbo’d Ford Mustang.  Kenny Brown’s GT-4T will be on-hand to show you some serious “Mango Tango” pony car magic.  How so, you might ask?  Well, Kenny’s latest weapon in the arms cache is a screaming orange flavored hued Mustang GT loaded with a complete, tuned chassis suspension package gleaned from years of street & tracking tuning and is capitalized upon by a crisply European behavior when taxed.

The crown jewel atop, or below, rather…is the Kenny Brown BiTurbo system which gives this Ford Mustang an incredible jump in base horsepower, allowing for incredible pedal response in addition to killer handling characteristics, otherwise.

This year’s SEMA show in Las Vegas had a tremendous showing from the Steeda Autosports team, with their exhibition of the Steeda Fiesta Sport, the performance tuned Steeda Fusion Sport, and the asphalt rippin’ 5.0L Steeda StreetFighter Ford Mustang.  The 2011 5.0-liter supercharged Q650 Steeda StreetFighter was up on display at the Nitto Tire booth, proudly donning the latest & greatest in ultra high performance tires–the Nitto NT05.

Coupled with the NT05 rubber, the Steeda StreetFighter Mustang also received a plethora of suspension upgrades; more applied to any of their production vehicles in times past.  Joining the party is also the famed Watts Link Suspension setup, permitting this Steeda Mustang to pull over 1.5Gs on the skid!  As far as performance goes, the Steeda Q650 StreetFighter has ample power to brag about a 0 to 60 time under 4 seconds & a 1320ft time of resting comfortably in the 10s.

Galpin Auto Sports builds a 1969 Ford Mustang from scratch23 Nov

Galpin Auto Sports at SEMA 2009

Ever worked on a classic Ford Mustang?  Ever built one or restored one?  Ever built from the ground-up in 24 hours?  We’ve gotta say, this last category has to be a minority in the overall population of Mustang fans.  There is, however, a team from Galpin Auto Sports (GAS) that took the 2009 SEMA show by the reins and exhibited their mechanical talents for all to see.  Seven crewmen took just under a day (in summary) to hand build a 1969 Ford Mustang fastback on stage, right in front of the crowd.  The crowd totally ate it up.  Perhaps it wasn’t something to sit and stare at all day, but the 1969 Mustang build accomplished one thing for sure–repeat traffic.  People were constantly stopping back by the booth to check up on the progress of the build, wondering if the team was going to make the deadline.  Legendary names and brands were all rolled up into this project, making the car a truly unique specimen.  Who all was involved?  What modifications were made in the build?  Keep reading to find out!
