Track Day Ford Mustang Honors WWII Veterans

There have been quite a few Ford Mustang stories in the headlines these past weeks with regard to memorializing special interest causes, veterans, and tributes in general to motorsport legends (Carroll Shelby’s passing).  Well, honestly, there’s no such thing as too many, so here’s one more to enjoy.  Shannon Moore has a tie back to World War II via her grandfather, and had her sights set on the WWII memorial in DC, with him riding along.  What’s more, Shannon has also latched onto HonorFlight.org, an organization tasked with assisting veterans in getting veterans the chance to personally visit their respective memorial(s).

Since hearing of this incredible initiative, Shannon, her crew chief, and Rehagen Racing’s Dean Martin have put the skids on a Mustang in order to be the ultimate track car as a tribute.  Shannon’s racer boy girl Mustang is hued in Furious Fuschia, has loads of performance goodies, and is completely track-ready for paying tribute to the Fallen and the Honored we still owe a debt of gratitude to.

2012 Ford Mustang Mid America Shelby Meet

Is everyone ready for an incredible display of Ford Mustang awesomeness?  How about a memorable Shelby Mustang event and tribute?  If both (or either) of these sound good, then you’d better get to packing your bags and fueling the steed(s) for the 38th Annual Mid-America Ford Nationals, in Tulsa.  Ford is set to unleash the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500–you know the 200mph capable one–and host open track days, put on a Ford & Shelby banquet, and build many memories for the years to come.

So when and where is this all going down?  June 13 through 17 (2012) in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Trust us, we were at the show last June with Built to Cruise, and we’ve gotta say it was one of the most entertaining and fun-filled events of the summer.  Between the amazing Shelby Mustang (and many other unique instances) display, good food, and camaraderie, Tulsa & Hallett Raceway held host to some amazing times, both on AND off the track.

Steeda breaks 12-second 1320 with CAI

The key players in the Ford Mustang aftermarket keep on tweaking, tuning, and testing the 2011 Mustang GT in order to squeeze a bit more juice from the car that already produces a formidable amount of power straight off the assembly line.  Steeda Autosports has been designing a proprietary Steeda Cold Air Intake and a Steeda Performance Tune in order to break out ahead of the rest where it counts: at the track!

The Steeda CAI kit, when matched up with a set of Nitto 275/40/17 NT05 Drag Radials, was able to rocket the Steeda Mustang down the 1/4 mile strip at South Georgia Motorsports Park just under the 12-second mark with a 115mph trap!  So just how did the car sound?  Who drove the car (because we all know the best mod is the driver mod!)?

2010 Camp Steeda recap

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to catch a hot lapping session, you aren’t alone.  If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to participate in one, yeah, you have no strange company here and there.  All we can tell you is that in order to make it happen, you have to guts up and make it to a local track hotspot and either tear it up in your own Ford Mustang or beg for a shotgun spot to soak it up.

The guys and gals at Steeda made up a fantastic track event just recently at the 2010 Camp Steeda Driving event, presented by Track Guys at Sebring.  There are few tracks that are ever-present in a boy racer’s mind and this is exactly one of them.  The 3.7-mile course is one of the most car & driver taxing ones in any circuit, yet with a proper driver and car, can often times be the most enjoyable.

If you have any idea of what the track experience is like, you know exactly what I’m saying and you can feel it as I do.  If you don’t have a clue what a track weekend is like, then keep reading; the Steeda folks know how to put on a good show–no doubt.  Enjoy!
