Some pictures of my project... The Mustang SHO

Interesting build. I have owned my 93 SHO for 8 yrs now. If you have ever owned one you would not really want to cut one up. Yeah Yeah they outside is a taurus, but it is more than that. I am part of a good community called theSHOFORUM. If you have any technical issues/questions you could start an account and the guys and gals there can point you in the right direction.:nice:

Say..... how you going about turning that 3.0 to the 3.2? It might be easier just getting the block from the 3.2. There are differences in the blocks, I can't tell you the exacts but the guys on the forum could.

Best of luck to you on your project sir! Oh and to everyone else.... LEAVE THE SHO ALONE:mad:

NVRMD I guess you are a member there also!! Small world. :D

FWD or 4WD mustang:rlaugh: ....you sould be kicked out of here.

Very interesting project. I hope you got the car cheap. but my head is still saying why...why...why.....but if thats what turns your crank GO FOR IT!!!

but alas, I am still thinking; isn't the reason why we have these cars is b/c they rep. a era of old school styles and ways. I am afraid that now your classic muscle is no more than another RICE BURNER:nonono: . who would want to have a car that looks like that and sounds like ...well you know..... ho hum, again this is just my opinion.

but looking at it from my engineering side, i have to congradulate you. great work and one hell of a job.

god this screws with my brain.......

Careful, this forum contains a lot of mod work... If you're really concerned, I'm sure there is a concourse forum out there for you...

I think the idea is fascinating and requires guts and skills I do not possess (yet).

Don't t-5's refuse to shift after 7000?

first off as to why...well, I thought I had adressed it...I get the same power as a 289 at 150lbs less first off...I can rev to 8k RPM, making better use of my gears, and I get 27+mpg, I dont see why I need a v8...I am personally of the mind that I will use whatever technology is better for me to reach a goal....I love a good old v8 as much as the next muscle car guy, but I am building a modern car sheathed in classic sheet metal here(not classic muscle..which the 65-66 mustang never was) ...I am in no way interested in keeping it stock...its a plain jane coupe...its not a california special, high country special, or any sort of shelby...it will never really be worth anything to anyone but me so I might as well have fun with it....now as to the question about t5s not shifting past 7k...I believe thats more of a clutch issue....high RPMs require a different type of clutch...which is what I will be using with my SHO/mustang hybrid clutch assembly

an interesting fact...the "rice burner" heads on this engine flow far better than 5.0 heads any day of the week...after I get it running I'll be adding twin turbos...and while not as powerful as a v8 with a ton of money dumped into it...500HP is as easy as 18psi...in other words...theres more than one way to skin a cat, and when I'm finished I know my car will be unique...for a while anyway

I need some suggestions guys...I've been taking some measurments and assuming I use a TCP rack and pinion there is one spot in the engine bay the SHO engine will fit without me having to make a custom oil pan or trim the shock towers...only one issue...this moves the engine forward about 2.5"...not a big deal as far as handling goes since it was shorter than the 289 to begin with...but the adapter plate I'm using for the tranny will only make up for about 1/2" of that...leaving the shifter location 2" further forward than most t5 conversions...which creates the issue of it being hard to shift into 3rd and 5th...I never did care for the stock bent shifter....so I was wondering if I could could make a linkage system similar to the mustangs plus one...but lower profile that I'd be able to hide under a custom(or modified) console....but I have no idea how to go about creating a linkage system...I plan on using a steeda tri-ax shifter btw

There are a lot of different tail-shaft housings for the T5. I believe you could get a longer T5 tail-shaft housing from Modern Driveline. They might have one that would bring it up right through the stock hole. That would put you right where you started but at least you wouldn't have to do any fabrication.

Now that I think about it.... you may have to change the internal shaft to make that work which is almost 1/2 way to a rebuild of the trans... I don't know if it would be cost effective to do it this way.

I am using a 94-up t5 with the longer input shaft(needed to make up the 1/2" the adapter plate adds) it looks though as if I will be using the mustangs plus shifter thing...function before form...I'll think of some way to hide it...or at least minimize it

It's your car, do what you want with it.

If I were going to build something along those lines, I'd do a Ranger 4 cylinder with turbo coupe electronics and a bigger turbo, but that's just me.

There was a Falcon in Hot Rod a few years ago with that setup in it. The stock Ranger engine has too much compression (10.1:1) for boost, at least over about 6 psi.

For what its worth, Im glad Im not the one doing this swap, nor would I ever want to. However, I love to see alternatives to just the same 'ol 5.0 and even the basic stroker swaps. Props to ya! :nice:

That shifter relocation deal from mustangs plus is WAY over priced IMO. I would be willing to bet that you could fab something just as good as that sucker with very little effort.

Did you want the shifter in the stock spot or were you going to relocate it ?

I want flick of the wrist shifting like my neon has actually...so I would want it closer if at all possible...as for fabbing a shifter...I probably could fairly easily(since I have acess to a waterjet) but I dont know where I would find the spherical bushing necessary(the adjustable bobble strut for my neon would work...but that cost $70 to begin with) my main issue with fabbing is that bearing...its one thing I wouldnt even know where to start sourcing...alternatively I could use some type of cable system, which would be lower profile....but either way...fabbing it myself seems like it could turn into a nightmare unless I have more information on angles and the like

thanks for the help rusty, as always you're an invaluable source of info.....well, in other news I picked up a couple throttle bodies from a Nissan 300zx twin turbo to use for my modified manifold...with linkage, which with a bit of judicious modification I should be able to use once I cut some flanges on the waterjet

I asked around once about the shifter relocation thing to see if anyone else had fabricated one themselves and if they were willing to share their plans. No one replied though.

I've seen a few cars in magazines with some type of shifter relocation, but the pictures never showed the mechanism. So, I'm gonna have to come up with one myself so my wife will feel more comfortable driving the stang.
