'91 with no A/C anymore

I haven't used the A/C in my 1991 5.0 GT vert since last year when I had the compressor replaced and it stopped working a few weeks later. The computer gave out a few days later and I couldn't get it back to the shop that "fixed" the A/C.

The A/C blows air out of the ducts just not cold. The clutch doesn't seem to be engaging. I'm not familiar with the ins and outs of the A/C system. Anyone got any ideas? Any cheap relay fixes or troubleshooting? Any ideas on a repair estimate?

Thanks,
Joe

The compressor won't come on if the freon in the system is low or gone. The only way to fix the system is to fix it right. If you don't have the knowledge and tools then you'll probably have to pay someone to fix it.

The system will have to be charged, the leak found and fixed, any other problems fixed like a bad dryer or whatever, evacuated and then recharged.

So basically you're saying that I'm at the mercy of the same people that sold me parts that stopped working in a few weeks?

yep, pretty much, or you can find another shop that will treat you better.
If you are willing to tackle the job yourself Jrichker wrote an awesome write up for me once. it's hella long and real detailed, but it will tell you everything you need to do and replace to get it running properly.

Yeah, I'm willing to give it a shot or at least troubleshoot so I know what's wrong with it if I HAVE TO take it to a shop because I don't have the tools to fix that exact part. Damn shops and their crap junk parts! Do you have that write up still or know where to find it?

If your a/c hasnt run in a year you are probably looking at a teardown and replace. this is based on an r14 conversion, but if you have a leak then some parts obviously got overlooked at your last overhaul. all the information you should need is in here so take what you need and hit up jrichker with a pm he is super helpful.
