Can someone help me out with my 1994 Mustang GT

  • Sponsors (?)

hey guys so im taking my car to a shop tomorrow i got some people to check it out and i was told that my engine is strong but my transmission just might be the problem so what do u guys recomend? i was told by a stranger that standered is slower but i was told a million times that it is actually faster... hopefully tomorrow goes fine... cant wait!!!!!!! whats the HP on a stock 94 gt?

Skip the spacers for now unless they are practically free. Sounds like you have a lot to do and spacers should not be a priority...YET!

Second on the $200-$300 for the intake. They are not "that much" cheaper for used because since they are not a moving working part, there is not that much that could go wrong. "STANDERED" (standard-5spd-manual) is only slower than auto if you dont know how to drive. The actual output HP with a manual is more than that of auto. If a shop told you it is the "transmission", find out SPECIFICALLY what they said is wrong, and post back. I cant help you there, but others here can.....I think I answered everything.

I wish you DO NOT take the car to the shop to do any small repairs!

Shop will charge you arm an a leg. You CAN do the tune up on 5.0 motor very easily. The total cost of parts will be under $150. That includes spark plug wires, spark plug, fuel filter, oil, oil filter( check for specials), transmission oil and filter, air filter.

You will never learn about the car if you keep taking your car to the shop.

I was scared and had no idea how to work on mustang when i first bought it. Now i can change heads and intake and other little stuff, This saved me over $3000 and i had fun time doing it.

Buy a nice set of tool kit, Jack and jack stands. :)

And keep your car to simple bolt ons for power gain if you want the car to live a long life, Simple cat-back, shorty headers, intake(filter), pulleys, throttle body will help a lot and you will enjoy driving it, after these steps go for "Looks" department.

After that if you are experienced enough to take the mechanical challenge upgrade your heads, Intake manifold, ADD nitrous or Supercharger, Turbo, Or get a 331 or 347 stroker kit.

Then BLOW YOUR ENGINE! Take it all apart yourself. Get pissed off. Put it all back together then your transmission will go out, replace that or upgrade it. get pissed off again. put it back together.

Then by now you can do all the work yourself and you don't have to take it to the mechanic anymore.

I took these steps to learn about this car...Repeat these steps many times as it will be necessary with 5.0.

94-95 5.0's are a freaking "MONEY PIT"

If i could have known this in the beginning i would have bought a "VETTE" :)

I am kidding. LOL

1st advice, second opinion.......

2nd advice, U didnt notice the trans not shifting right before u bought it>??????

3rd...what lead them to believe it wasn't getting enough fuel???

I second opinion the "second opinion" You need to ask the guy "what tests lead to the conclusions".

I am one of the WORST "mechanics" around here, and even I wouldnt worry about some of those things....Pulley, rad hose, etc. THose are easy fixes. If you are still convinced that you cant and wont do some of this work then find a PERFORMANCE shop, not a "mechanic"

these cars are not very fast in the first place 215 horsepower its not even respectable i have a 95 and i cant wait to switch it to a modular engine
either there is somthing wrong with the car or you just think it should be quicker

You also might want to find a local stanger (from a local stang club, etc) to come over and go through the car with you. Someone with some experience will know what's normal and not. He/she will also have know-how can make short work of a lot of these things.

Otherwise, as Rob and others said, if this car will be professionally maintained, you might want to sell/trade it and get something newer. Parts alone cost a lot, let alone a ton of labor costs.

Good luck.

That's a good point...Get on Corral.net also, and between there and here, you should find someone within a 1/2 hr drive. I found 4-5 guys around me when I joined and they helped me TONS....even came by and did most of my work a few times for some Heineken and a Lunch at Chili's :D Guys that do this for a hobby will love to help out for some free food!:SNSign:

omg i could not stop laughing...so awesome..gotta love mustangs

It sounds as you bought a worn out stang... It happens to all of us. But those you have listed are not big problems at all.

1. fuel injectors stock 19 lbs = everywhere ask some of the guys in here see if they have any for sale.

2. New fuel filter = $10

3. New fuel pump = $100

4. New trans filter = $25

5. New exhaust = $300 aftermarket

6. New shocks and springs = $300 tokiko package

7. New radiator = $150

8. New radiator hose = $15

9. New harmonic balancer $80

10. Transmission = JUNK YARD!!! LOL

Use this price list and don't get ripped off. Most of these stuff you can do it yourself. :) good luck man.

I wouldn't get an aode tranny rebiult, itz just gonna break again and still be slow. I did a aode to 5-speed swap and it was well worth it. Now about your performance, you might want to scan for codes even if the CEL is not on. Mine was running lean and I didnt find out until I scanned for codes. I'm no mechanic but you can learn alot from these guyz

ok guys so i got my rad hose done for 60 bucks the one on top was about to explode... and the bottom is good. now they are telling me that i have fuel related problems? one of the pistons is clogged or isnt geting the right amount of gas?wtf lol do i have a v7 now... haha thats weired v7. so i have to get that done idk how thats gna be done but u got to do what u got to do
