I have AFR 165s, tfs stageI cam, edel u/l, 24#, 80mm MAS, 75 mmtb, lt's, xpipe, u/d pullies, cia, frpp 1.6 rr, full suspension, KC clutch, aly driveshaft, freaking 4.10s and all the other supporting BS.
I CONSISTANLY LOSE to my brothers 99z28, with a SLP lid, a catback, and no cats.
I get **** for milage, he runs all day, gets like 30mpg. I bitch to my mustang friends that I did 10x better in a freaking turbo 4cyl, to which my 15yr old winter beater runs with my friends 331 sn95 with under $300 into it.
So, then what? I drop another 3k on a power adder so I REALLY can't drive the car anywhere? I used to take cross country roadtrips and rip off easy 12s. This thing I hate taking 20min trips in as it just loves to drink.
I am currently about to sell my 14k money pit at a huge loss so I can get back into a FASTER, more REALISTIC musclecar...... *hint* *hint* NOT A FORD.

When I had nothing but AFR 165 heads, Camshaftinnovations cam, Performer intake, 70mm TB, SHORTY headers, and 3.73 gears I easily outran LS1's. Hell I remember one time when I ran across a modded LS1 T/A automatic the look on his face when I pulled away from him while I was grabbing gears was priceless. Then at the next redlight he asked if I would mind him spraying me.
Maybe you should try a healthy M6 car, not a slushbox with 2:73s

After my dyno tune I got seriously around 22mpg on the highway or maybe more. To me that is damn good mileage for a 12 second car.
I'm willing to bet it was a few less than you think.
Why can't you drive it? I've got a power adder and drive my car DAILY! I could drive to Mexico if I wanted to and when I get there throw on the 15" wheels and rip of a 10 second pass.
I could drive it all I want if I don't mind dumping gas in like it's going out of style sure.

Apples to apples buddy. IMO if you want to play that game then throw in a 351W with as good as heads to the LS1 and a cam of equal. That would be alot better comparison.
Not quite just a cubes game mang. Go dig up the countless comparo threads. See how big of an advantage a 15degree head gives you. You're drivability is still going to suffer. On that note you're saying "well yea if I take the engine out and put this one in, its like the same thing".....yeah, that really puts the 5.0 on a pedastal
As far as you saying it takes H/C/I+a blower to run with a cam/bolt on GM...that is simply not true. It would take a cam/bolt on+nitrous to run with my daily driver 5.0. And yes I am still on the stock 131k miles pistons, rings, rods, rod bolts, crank, main caps, block, and oil pan.
What's you're daily make to the ground on a MUSTANG or SAE dyno? Cam only LS1s do @ 420-430rwhp with a good tune. You made what 10-20 more with a poweradder? On pump? How does that feel?
Cam only + bottle guys are dipping well into the 10s. On stock heads.
Go get your LS1 and let me know when you get it and I'll make you miss your SN95 5.0
