Seriously IF YOU drive an auto, these mods will make your car awesome! stop what your are doing and get these for your car RIGHT NOW!

So now that I have them in my car, I figure I can now get to put my 2 cents in about them.

Ever since I owned my Mustang, I have made my self a promise that I would do one or two small mods to it every year. Be it new tire/rims, plenum t/b, exhaust, sound system, K&N, extra gauges, etc..

After reading CobraRed_96_GT's thread about the Hammer Shifter, I decided that would be this years mod. It was defintely one of the most time consuming/difficult Jobs for me to do. But it was worth it. I had trouble getting the cable to install right, so after a while I just took it to Mustang Magic and had them fix it. I guess all it took was an extra man to pull of the cable into place and everything in the end worked itself out. SO I was very happy.

I bought a transmission cooler on CobraRed's recommendation, and installed that too. I even put a transmission temp gauge in place so I could see the cooler working. 180 degrees is what I am averaging, If I work the transmission gears up and down while cruising. If I just drive around in the D gear, i average about 150 to 170.

While I was at Mustang Magic ( 2 hour drive), I decided I would get gears. It was kinda pointless for me to drive all the way down there for a transmission cable, and not get performance mods done. So I decided I would get gears! First of all, just so you know, my car is a 2001 Mustang GT, which I bought new in August 2000. It took me 8 years to decide to get the gears! I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I WAS THINKING!!! I should have bought this when I first got the car. I got the 3.73 gears and HOLY CRAP my car just accelerates SOOOOOOOOO much faster!

So in closing, if you drive an automatic, GET A FREAKING HAMMER SHIFTER! besides looking cool it is COOL! and get a transmission cooler, I cant tell you how the car is woken up with the ability to "pick" a gear. and DEFINTELY GET GEARS!!!!

Also before anyone says.... Its just an auto.... just dont :) I got the car before I learned stick! (yea wife taught me :nonono: :rlaugh: )But I love my car so much I cant get rid of it just for the sake of getting a stick.

I like the fact that CobraRed's extensive video convinced you to get it, I was amazed at his video and the parts that he had installed in with his tranny.

I am amazed how well the hammer makes driving an auto so much fun. I am thinking about telling my buddy to throw one in his PI'ed 96 GT, he just needs to watch the video and read you and CobraRed's posts about the Hammer shifter in Autos!

BTW, my car is gonna be getting some gears soon, I just hope I'm happy when I switch to 3.73's as you were!

Glad everything worked out, mate! Thanks for mentioning me in your reasoning, makes me glad to give out my advice and share my experiences on this site(especially to 4R owners). I take pride in the auto now, i learned how to drive in a manual car then bought this stang because it was such a deal. Eventually I don't miss driving a stick at all with the mods I've done. And you're right, a tranny cooler, B&M shifter and gears ARE a must for every car.

Join the Auto L337 club and we can discuss what mod you should do next year!

Oh snap, i hadn't checked that in a while. Awesomness. The temp idea was a good one, wish i had done a tranny temp-in line. Guess i could rig that up when i put a wide-band in.

You dont need to bang a hole in the transmission pan for a sensor. Do it your self with this Auto Meter 2286 Temperature Manifold Adapter. 10 minute job put it in the cooler line. Im sure its not 100% as accurate as tapping a hole directly into the pan. But my temperature readings are on average as what other people reported online on other mustang forums.

yeah, that's what i meant. I'd do it while i was down there putting in a wide-band. So you put it in-line with the hot side line going to the cooler right? Seems like that would read high considering it's only ever reading fluid being sent to be cooled.

Have any pics of the shifter installed? What makes it better other than looks?

I will take some pics soon, its raining now so the car is put away. I guess its really a psychological type thing.... that makes it better. I dont know how to explain it really. just the idea, that you can "pick" a gear and not think about it.

I guess you can say you are driving on the thruway, and your in D obviously, you can throw the car into 2, speed up to pass someone, put the car back into drive. and continue cruising. You can do that without fear or watching to make sure you dont go from D to 1 or 1 to N

Also if just somehow wakes the car up for me.

here is a pic
