Official GT40P headed 300rwhp thread!!!

subscribing--300rwhp is my goal, and any torque that's considerably above that is a bonus!

fwiw: i'm running the mac P-spec shorties (w/out the EGR bung--think they're for a fox) and have changed plugs twice w/out ANY problems whatsoever. sure, you spend extra money, but to me, it was worth it.

This is an OLD thread....3 years! This was posted when i First got my motor! I cant say that i reached my goal because i only hit 275/320 hp/tq

Since that dyno though I have added a typhoon intake and longtubes...so who knows? Maby i should get it dynoed!

Green - Don't judge your success by peak numbers. Take your average torque x average power (Engine Masters style) over the 2,000-6,000 rpm band and compare that number to the same number calculated from a dyno of a car that made 300RWHP and your likely to be surprised at how well your combination does. I just feel like you have a car like mine - instant throttle response at any rpm and trouble hooking on good street tires in 1st or second. Numbers don't mean as much to me as how it drives for a street car. A track car is another story.

You tell em Tom :hail2:

We all shoot for that 300 bench mark :)
but
If you got 300 peak and the rest of the curve is poopy :(

Sure ... You can brag about that value when speaking of dyno results
but
For a street car that has that ... torque at any rpm feeling

Its just not all about ........ peak hp only

Good thread. Needs dyno sheets instead of here-say and guessing though..

I posted my dyno sheet a long time ago... 312rwhp and 318rwtq... or something really close... And yes, the car has plenty of torque... The head porting and cam changed resulted in 40rwhp gain and 10 rwtq... On street tires I dropped over half second over my best time... so I know the car is way faster... Would I have done it a different way... naw, its pretty cool doing what I did with junk parts... although, I wouldn't exactly say I have bargain priced combo... Bee-hive springs and Titanium retainers were pretty pricey.....

Since all of this.... I quit my Mechanical Engineering job (yeah... I'm crazy, all that hard work for my BSME), and got hired by the LAPD... I went through the academy and have been out on patrol for almost 1 year... And before you say... WHY? Someone told me once... "find a job you love, and you'll never work a day in your life."... If I didn't have to pay a mortgage, I would seriously be a cop for free!!!

I did find one of the sheets before I put in the Beehives and Ti retainers...

" since I know pretty much any aftermarket head (TW, AFR, Edelbrock) should already be at 300rwhp... But, anything that you can contribute is more than welcome!!! "

You would be surprised on those after market guys that Are NOT at 300 whp!! It takes a lot more than a set of heads, the heads are important, and can hold you back, however the Ported GT40s will pull that much and MORE !!

Using the P's we suggest bumping the exhaust valve up from the 1.46 to the GT40 1.55 size. Also remember that ALL the aftermarket heads are with the under cut stainless valves( better cylinder filling at low and mid lift ) .. so that might be a good upgrade on the W's, getting close to apples and apples... yes??

SOOOOo... make a good choice and have fun!! and you too will experiance the jaw drop when you just handed a set of doors to a high dollar head car!!! LOL

I've I am going to try to reach the illusive 300rwhp mark, by porting my GT40P's, and adding a custom matched cam...

I also started a thread on my clubs board (as a sticky), so we could document what the 300rwhp combo's are, and who actually makes it to this goal... So far SSKiller and Twotonefreak have signed up for our little competition, and hopefully others will follow...

Thanks... Please follow the link in my sig. to the thread...
What are the specs on your Custom Cam ?

I'd have no way to know the info to answer your Q

however

Being as I am a customer of one of those Cam Guru kinda guys :)

I do know this ;)

Most of the time .........
Those peeps do not wish their trade secrets being disclosed :nono:

I mean ...........
Their lively hood depends upon their knowledge :Word:
It took em a long time to obtain that knowledge

I'd be willing to bet now that you think about it along those lines ...
You can see how .....
Sharing info such as that would be detrimental to those professionals

Actually giving the lift and duration at .050 and the center lines isnt that big of a deal with a custom cam.. usually it is what is under those numbers that is where their "custom" comes in..

i'm short on time so i haven't read the whole thread but by what rpm is most ppl making around 300 rwhp or close to it, and and what is the goal rpm to stop at. maybe i'm sounding stupid but my car is a street car so my prefered limit is 6500 but my current combo lays down around 5200-5300 max. i figure you can almost make any power you want if you spin it fast enough, of course a properly matched cam makes it possible.

With the holidays and all ........

Most likely ... a lot of peeps missed this thread where we talked basic stuff
about some of what you ask.

Take a look and see if it is something that can help :)

You guys can add me to this list as well. I Already had the cobra manifold fully ported and now am having the heads race ported, this is where they are at right now

lift value .100 .200 .300 .400 .500 .600

stock 58 121 159 186 190 195

yours as delivered 59 118 161 191 190 195

ported 60 122 160 196 207 219

i did the gt40p swap on my 95 and my results are 100% more than i expect althought the heads are fully ported on the exhaust side. still have the stock 95 intake which i know is seriously holding it back.
but the car pull,s hard through out the rev range and i have spanked several ls1, ram airs and camaro ss,s that my car couldnt even keep up with the e7.s
and i only have 308 gears stock cam stock intake

If you put your car up for any period this winter, port that stock lower intake for another nice hit in power. Instructions on how to do it yourself are on my website.
