Rio Red Progress Thread...

So, progress has been slow on the car. Money is tight. :( I installed the redline goods tan leather shift boots, the FRPP 5 speed Cobra leather shift knob, billet cig lighter, and replaced the gauge cluster bezel that was all drilled out and dirty with a fresh clean one from MPS. I ripped out the hack job gauges that didn't even work under the radio and cleaned the area up with a stock utility compartment. Right now I'm painting up a gauge pod to match the dark parchment top of the dash. The pod will have sport comp tach, oil pressure, and water temp in it. Shift light to be installed when the tach is. Pics to come soon! :nice:

I'm really feeling those Cobra R's. The Bullits were legit but that satin finish just stands out. And its uncommon...a big plus in my book...makes it more of your own thing. Hell of a pick up guy...take care of her...

Got a few things done on the car. No REAL progress yet, not by my standards anyway. I got the Redline Goods shift boots and Cobra shift knob on but the console is currently all apart to have the e-brake adjusted. Here's what I have done:

2004 Cobra steering wheel installed: (You can also see the fresh new OEM cluster bezel I installed without 6 HOLES drilled in it!)

Picked up a really clean set of Saddle leather rear seats out of a 1996 Cobra, cleaned and conditioned them and will be installing them soon: (plan on running some tan LG1 Corbeaus up front)

Here's what the center console USED to look like, with non-functional gauges hacked in there. I removed them and sold them off and replaced them with a stock utility panel. Finished pics in a day or two once the center console is back together.

Oh, I also picked up a Harris Speed Works Wet Kit and Microedge Nitrous Controller, also have a bottle warmer and nitrous pressure gauge on the way. :D Planning to run a 125 shot.

Thread title changed at the request of the OP :)

Thanks so much! :nice:

Hell yesssss, you're gonna love the nitrous!!!

Awesome progress with the car. I love that color.

Thank you! I can't wait to get the nitrous kit installed on the car and feel the 125 shot for the first time! :D

As a side note, I'm having a bunch of work done to the car mechanically. I took it in for a tune up and it turned out a bunch of stuff needed attention. The evap system has a leak, getting the A/C system recharged with 134a, fuel filler neck grommet, rear differential gasket replaced due to a leak, new plugs, wires and coils, all new fluids, front brakes, emergency brake adjusted, inspection, four new O2 sensors, new battery, etc. The car should run like a top now! More progress pics to come soon!

I'm having a hell of a time getting the car to pass NY inspection. I was going to go the less-than-legal route, but I decided to just locate a catted X pipe. I ended up trading my non-catted Bassani X for a catted Bassani X pipe straight across. I think I made out okay on the deal. Now, we'll see if she stops throwing codes and gets a sticker. :nice:

Love the build and details. Do you have a sniffer? Most of the time, the check engine light will not come on right away after swapping midpipes. However, since yours might have already be on, it might trigger a check engine light with the catted midpipe.

Another suggestion is just swapping in a stock midpipe for the inspection. It's a PITA everyear, but unless you have a hookup, well worth the 1 day hassle.

Thanks man! I don't believe there is a sniffer in NY state. I was told the inspection station just plugs into the vehicle's computer. I hope the shop is able to dump the codes and get the car to pass with the catted midpipe.

I tried sourcing a stock midpipe locally but had no luck. I spoke to two guys who each wanted $200 for their stock pipes, saying the precious metals alone in them were worth X amount of money. The method I chose cost me nothing, and the reason I did it is because I already paid for four new O2 sensors and I didn't want the offroad x pipe to foul them out again.

Does anyone know how restrictive one of these Bassani catted X pipes with the high flow cats can be? I'm just hoping my car isn't too quiet with it on now. :(

Well, the car has been back in my possession for about two weeks now. It passed inspection! Work and grad school has kept me extremely busy. I spent a lot of time cleaning the car after the mechanics were done working on it-- it was beyond FILTHY!!

Anyway, I got the center console all put back together and shift/brake boots reinstalled. I also got the saddle leather rear seats installed. The front seats look terrible now compared to the awesome tan leather rear seats, so I pulled the trigger on a set of tan leather racing seats. :D I'm not sure if they'll match the saddle leather rear exactly, but they're an improvement over stock no matter what. They should improve the overall look and feel of the interior tenfold. Check em out:

I also ended up picking up a set of Maximum Motorsports HD lower control arms for the car too. Gauges and Terminator body parts to be installed/painted soon as well... More to come!

Nice I really like those seats. Where did you get them from and if you dont mind how much are they??:nice:

Thanks man, but the seats are my little secret. :D It took me so long to find a nice set of tan racing seats (aside from custom ordered Corbeaus or Sparcos) for under $1k. If you search online as long as I did you'll find the same ones. :nice:

edit: if you really wanna know, PM me to find out.
