PLEASE SOME1 HELP ME. I RELY ON THIS VEHICLE TO GET MY SON 2 SCHOOL AND GET MYSELF TO MY NEW JOB. I HAVE SEARCHED THE WEB...WITH NOT MUCH HELP. I HAVE EVEN SEARCHED THE WEB IN SPANISH. ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY. I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE YOUR ANSWERS OR TIPS.

First off, the sensor you are referring to is not called a CHT. The sensor in question is either the coolant temperature sender, which has one single pin (looks like a screw sticking off the sensor) and is responsible for the reading on your temperature gauge. Or it's the Engine coolant temperature sensor (has a 2-3 pin plug on it) and is responsible for calibrating air/fuel ratio and determines when it needs to activate the eletric cooling fan. On 94 -98 models, the gauge sender is just behind and above the water pump & thermostat housing and is sticking out the side of a small metal pipe ( has one wire with a black boot plugged into it). The temp sensor is probably less that a foot away from it to the left and is sticking off the very top of a simila metal pipe. On 99 and up models, these sensors are allmost in the same exact location, except the may be moved further to the left a little. The easy way to tell what sensor is what, the one with the single black boot/wire is the gauge sender, and it is allmost always located on the pipe with a round white cap on the very top. And there is a small notice printed on the cap about filling the cooling sytem from that pipe. That is the bleeder port. Which sensor is the one you are replacing? What does it look like?

Oh, and ....not trying to sound rude myself, but please dont type in ALL CAPS. THAT is considered yelling....and rude.

Thank You so much!!!

:hail2::hail2::hail2: i am so happy for all this information: could not have been more precise:woooow:i know that there are many good people out there..but at the same time i know that there are many smart people who really know what they are talking about.

may your weekend be fun...and i love this site. are u a mechanic/mustang lover??? again. Gracias.

Airbag sensors

Please help, i have a 01 v6...i just bought it and the cruise control harness behind the steering wheel was unplugged....i bought the car with a reconstructed title....it has moderate front end damage...would it be safe to plug this back in or where could i locate the airbag sensors just in case?

Glad to help. No I am not a technician......tho I SHOULD be lol. I'm just an automotive DIY'er. Siince I bought my 96 in 2000, I've done every bit of work myself. And that's a LOT of work through the years. I refuse to let any mechanic at some shop try and rip me off. That's impossible now. Even if I did take it in (Ford dealer where I worked), it would be impossible for one of the guys to say it needed some BS repair...cause I know too much and they cant fool me. Hah! Just saying though, not that any of the guys I knew would ever pull off something like that. See, I was ripped a couple times before 2000, and bogus charges among other things. It just pays to learn the trade yourself.

Halo, plugging the cruise in shouldn't have anything effect on the air bags. Unless that harness also contains air bag wiring to the steering wheel. If it does and the car has moderate front end damage, I would leave it untill you are sure the sensors aren't damaged.

Thanks for helping MustangLX...it seems as if the harness does lead to both the cruise and the airbags, although my passenger side sensor is missing !?!?....im not sure how to approach this...but i made another post on this topic.....here is the link .... http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/794721-airbag-cruise-hookup-please-help.html ...thanks for your help....you seem very experienced with stangs...like seriously, how do you know all this ****...crazy man....crazy!...

Air purge tee?

Have you tried a local Ford dealer?

Sometimes it helps a lot to give some back ground on the problem and what has been done to fix it.

This is a pic of it the piece where the hose , CTS connect to and it go in to the intake. i have it rigid with some Galved pipe but i rather put the real piece in there.

UPDATE: I went to ford and got this info.

Part: obsolete do not replace.
Part Name: Hot Water Outlet Tube
Part Number: F547-18599-A

any ideas on where to get if you have any!!! LOL

2003 mustang 3.8 coolant temperature sensor

i know you say it is about a foot to the left. did you mean towards the passenger side or drivers side. i still cant find the sensor. help any pics

The sensor is towards the center (Passenger) of the lower intake. It will be near where the upper hose connects to the intake.

Post up a photo and we can point you to it. This is what I was able to find out on the web here.

Let us know if this helps.

Here is another wonderfull run in with said sensor.(btw 97 3.8L it is located not to the right of the thermostat but it is the sensor to the left) I found out that my girls stang was getting hot so i replaced the sensor, still ran hot and fan would not turn on so thinking I got a bad sensor from the parts house i got another one. didnt work fould that unpluging the sensor turns on the fan, tied the sensor up and called it fix until it annoys me. And now it is annoying me(Btw also noticed that the a/c compressor will not turn on aka engage if the coolant temp sensor is unpluged) plug it in and turn the a/c on fan turns on bad thing is girl a/c wont get cold but that is another story. My fan has power i have checked not just the inside fuses and outside fuses but replaced every fuse/relay. but the fan will not come on with the sensor plugged in any words of wisdom?

Oh, oooh, I might be able to help with the a/c problem. One of my mustang's problems was the a/c as well. The fan worked, it just didn't blow cold air. When you turn the ac on, does the one gizmo under the hood engage and begin spinning? It's one of those contraptions along the belt. Anyway, my mechanic eventually figured out that the wires going into the plug in that part were loose. As soon as he reconnected the wires into that plug, the a/c worked again, and that gizmo began spinning. It might not be your problem, but it's worth a shot.

As far as where the temperature sensor's are, here are pictures of mine and where they are on my v6 3.8 '98. I just replaced the switch today because my horsey mobile's previous owner put straight water into the you know what. Well, after new head gaskets and water pump, this is where I'm at. even the sensors were effected by it, and for a while I had the wrong sensor in the wrong spot.

Even if yours doesn't look like this, you may still be able to tell the sensors apart. If you find these plug like things on your mustang, then there's probably only two of them. I only replaced the one on the right, and that one had an end that wouldn't fit the plug you can see on the left. Even if you mess up, I did too. I put a different sensor, which probably belongs in the left one, still need to try that, into the right spot you can see in the picture. The only thing I could notice is that the temp. gauge went especially left when I started the car, and did not work. It didn't blow up or anything...I had the sensors mixed up because the one they gave me didn't have any grooves on the outside, so it didn't matter what plug I tried it on.

The other difference I noticed was the coolant temp switch seemed to have a cylindrical end while the other odd ball one I got had a cone shaped end. I don't even know if the cone shaped one is the temp sensor (on the left) or if it isn't even for my '98. All I know is I put that temp switch in and now my gauge actually works for once and my check engine light's off. Hope this helps some.

I have been looking for the location of this on my 02 3.8L v6. It is not on top. It is not behind the pulley. It is also not in the manual that I bought from Autozone. I do have the one sticking up on the right but not the one sticking up on the left in the above picture. Any ideas where it mau be???????????

Guys, here is a prime case of why it's so important to post the Model Year of your car.

2000 and older V6 Mustangs use a engine coolant temperature sensor (ECT). It is located in the front of the engine where it's in contact with the coolant.

2001+ V6 Mustangs use an Cylinder head temperature sensor (CHT). It is located in the right hand cylinder head.

The V6 is very bad about trapping air inside the motor if the coolant re-filling procedures are not followed. This air will block the flow of coolant. Plus when there is air in contact with the ECT it will cause the ECT to read LOW. This causes the PCM to think that the motor is not overheating when it actually is.

The problem occurs so frequently that Ford changed the V6 design. The CHT is not affected by low coolant level.

To all: It is vital the the correct V6 coolant re-filling procedures be followed exactly.
