Honestly Mike, I don't have the pockets deep enough to
really make four digit horsepower. You simply break too many parts too often, especially for a 100% street driven car. I'll likely have the car tuned conservatively for 750 to 800 horsepower, with 800 being the true "goal." Thanks for the info about the C4s. I could have a TH400 built and run that instead. I'd like to stay away from a glide, as two gears on the street doesn't sound like very much fun.
Was the car that toasted all of those C4s a drag car or a street car?
It was a drag car. If you ever looked at the old You tube video I used to have in my sig, It was the white Starion w/ the goofy purple stripe that had a 438W. BUT, even though it was the "best you could get from PA" back then, I'm still talking almost ten years ago.
Maybe they're better now?
That car only ran 5.60's, but it left so hard, it actually broke a set of A.J.E wheelie bars too. On it's first debut hard pass sprayed, it got space shuttle vertical and I had to lift. After a new oil pan, and some
suspension pieces, I put the wheelie bars on it. They were stupid, because they were guaranteed not to unload the tires.
They still let the damn car come up way too high. Every body used to make fun of me because I'd get about 60' out, and the car would still be coming up, and I'd lift. (and smash the oil pan again)
After a while, I just put a piece of roll bar tubing under the engine cradle to keep my oil pan alive. They called it Mikes Banger bar.
800 hp is still alot of power though. And I agree, a 2 speed trans seems boring, but I also had one on the TT 363 street car, and once it started making boost, the 1-2 change came and it was ON from there.
Yeah it's very nice for the money and dirt cheap. What can you really get for $50 nowadays? Go to Roush-Yates ebay store and grab one, well worth it.
