Build Thread The Offical 1990coupe Progress Thread

I spend quite a bit of time on restoring these. 4 coats of black caliper paint, 3 coats of high temp clear after I cleaned the paint off the raised "COBRA" lettering. I'm pleased with the outcome.

Lookin good!! Who'd you get those brakes from!?!?!? LOL. Looks a lot better on that bench than they did when they left here. Cool thing is....I'll be able to see them in person in a week from today! Party time!

You know, the PBR GT brakes i have on the car now I painted red. My interior is blue, and i think the outside red stuff kinda clashes even though I like the red look. Figured i'd do them Black and be a little different than all the other Red calipers out there. I've seen your brakes, i say leave em polished :). Thanks for the compliment by the way!

dude, did you paint the braking surface on your rotors?!

Yes, i did purposely.

The calipers look great man. I did the same to my PBR's. I'd like to upgrade to a pair of those sometime in the future.

I got the driver side all on, but i had a wrong hose so i had to order that. I spend most of the weekend wire hiding the driver side. (in the process of an ER trip because i fractured my thumb :( ) Needless to say the driver side wire hiding is DONE and was a PITA. The car still starts, however i'm just nervous with all of that crammed into the fender. I hope it was a good move on my part!

Ok.. Here is the Update...

I built my garage specifically to paint this beast. My folks bought me an air compressor for Christmas, and I added all necessary lines with an overhead pulldown. Besides painting the car, it has really come in handy! Long story short, i misunderstood the gun pressure setting, and i was WAY too low on air pressure the first time i painted the car. The orange peal was ungodly. I had to basically re-prep the entire car. That's what I get for not painting the bumpers first! Epic failure on my part.

As maybe some of you know, because of Stangnet I became extremely close with Svt32vdohc, to the point where I call him my best friend. I had already planned on heading out a week after painting the car to visit him and his wife for the 4th of July weekend, and I wanted to drive the car out all painted up. He insisted we paint the car out at his place over the weekend. So thats exactly what we did!

Its a 10.5 hour drive from the Jersey Shore to where he is in Michigan. I got up at 1130pm, drove through the night to get to his place at 10, where we then headed over to his shop to paint the car on the 4th of July! I cannot thank him enough for not only this, but everything he's helped me with just with life, and for being such a great friend. On to the pics!!!

After setting the gun pressure correctly, I painted the underside of the hatch BEFORE the trip out. Came out PERFECT. I was so bummed.
