Concerning the oil loss problem; you said that during the Gulf trip the oil was foamy when you checked it. This is not normal and may be related to the venting problems. Are you using diesel oil to get the better anti-wear benefits? If so, be aware that diesel oil is very low on anti-foaming additives compared to gasoline engine oil.

I think that The dipstick had foam/condensation on it because it was an escape path for crankcase pressure. The oil itself was synthetic. And now that it's apart, has not given any indicator that it was foaming unless it was getting hit by the crank. no part of the crankcase had any evidence of anything other than normal oil in it..

See,..none of you guys give a rats red bunion hole what I do...I could post a pic of the burned down, molten, melted, mess that used to be the Monster after some cataclysmic house fire, and I might get a frowny face from somebody.

( I’d probably even get a couple of thumb ups from a few here as well...)

So,..I dangle a carrot...a pic of an actual 1970 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler, and all I get are 3 thumbs from the usual thumb givers...
And a smart assed observation from one of the smarter asses.

Anybody curious even in the least possible scenario as to why I did that?

Did I go out and buy a Blue 1970 429 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler?

Well of course not....Don’t be stupid.

I floated the pic so you could see what’s gonna happen with the Monster...

I may as well accept that either one of two things exist in my limited imagination.

1. I have a thing about trying to recreate something new from something old, with out giving up the things that made the old thing cool, while at the same time adding a “ What would it look like if?” quality to what I do.

Or...

2. The scope of my imagination is limited, and like the current crop of fast and furious movies,..all I can do is spin something already used too much into something only slightly worth paying more to go see.

You decide.

I’ve decided that I like to create a 60’s- 70’s muscle car that never existed using stuff from the muscle cars that did.

So, given the example listed above, the Monster is gonna go under the knife for some minor reconstructive surgery.

He’s getting the full Mercury Make over.

The Shelby Tail lights were never on a Cyclone...the ones pictured were. ( Can you guess what I ordered today?)

The duck tail spoiler was never on a Cyclone, the wing style spoiler was. ( Can you guess what I ordered today?)

The goofy little tornado decal was never on an actual Cyclone, the one pictured above was. (Can you guess what I ordered today?)

The sad little Bondo Nostrils were never on an actual Cyclone, the one pictured above was ( Can you guess what I’m gonna put on the new Fiberglass hood that I ordered today?)

SN 95 Torque Thrust wheels were never on an actual Cyclone, Magnum 500’s were. ( yep.......same deal)

When Spring comes around, the Monster will be in full Plagerism mode....If Mercury ever made a 1978 Cyclone...it’s gonna be like the one that’s gonna roll out of the garage at Mike’s house...

Let’s hope this works.

I just thought you were considering making the scoop/nostril that's on the Cyclone and maybe considering the wing. What happened to getting our opinion on indeas for the Monster? I feel so left out, Mike. Did you ever consider OUR feelings, Mike? :rlaugh::hide:

Very nice. I was worried when you put it up for sale that you were serious. And if you sold it, I would have one less excuse to sit right here in this chair and read about someone else doing work on their car and me not working on mine. Whew, I almost thought I was going to have to go out, yank the DS seat and swap the holley ECU's and wiring soon. Now thanks to @CarMichael Angelo I have a few more months of laziness to look forward to.

BTW, even if they don't fit right, those seats look better. I am sure you will get that squared away.

When I got home last night the front step was littered with boxes, and none of it has anything to do with the above confession.

The good 70.00 ones, not the cheaper Chinee versions you see on eBay for a third of that. They alone will hold down the 1978 Mercury Cyclone hood.
A new turbo blanket,..( the old one had become brittle and was separating)..an oil pan stud kit ( for whatever reason),... And the necessary -6 line and fittings to replumb the trans cooler lines in braided stuff...
Sneaky. I was gonna say he probably has a lock of your hair too buuuut...
It's just that I didn't take that pic,..

I’m really digging this theme mike- though i am a big fan of the original nostrils-this will be awesome to see.
Now-about the front splitter/bumper,maybe time to modify it as well

Sorry Charlie,..as much as that is not a part of any past Cyclone,...that part stays....it's one of my fav things on this car.
The only thing I'd consider doing is coming up with a way to incorporate the cooler shroud into an air dam. And I'll admit, that I've considered it.

But that would be part of a complete widening of the body,...and that ain't gonna happen.

In 2019.
