So today, I went and read this entire thread. Some thoughts:
Do you live in a rain forest? I've lurked on a bunch of boards thru a whole metric ton of car builds and combined they don't have as much rain as you do!

I love the front bumper conversion and the spoiler! I know you didn't plan it that way, but I know sometimes when I have to fix a thing or redo it, I do it better.
I like the way you try to use factory parts and not hack up the wiring etc. I probably should have done more like that....although I am wiring in a late model fuse box to get rid of the fusible links on my 85. But I am cutting out a lot of the factory stuff and replacing with weatherpack.

I really like this build!

Thanks man !!! I appreciate that. I'm trying to keep the factory stuff as unmolested as possible.

Seems like a reason forest in Maryland. I sate it's trained every week for the last 2 years.

I've been thinking about adding a factory fuse box behind the driver's fender. I'm not a fan of fusible links either.

Data logged the car again this afternoon. Man this thing pulls. Had the ole lady in for a ride. She says the car feels like the front tires come off the ground. I know they don't but she swears they do. The woman also says my car sounds like a bike.... I can't have that. The budget is approved for new mufflers...probably Flow Master 44s.

I cleaned up some of my wiring ( wrapped tape around some stuff ) and rerouted some questionable pathways. Even vacuumed under the hood. Removed the torn hood to cowl seal and got the hood situated for more repairs. It's now time to fix the broken and chipped corners. I'll be using the 3m 8115.

Saw just over 6psi of boost....that's 144kpa. The temperature was chilly here in VA. The tires broke loose about midway through the pull. Felt amazing. The wife straightened the seat belt out and gently placed it over the seat support when she got out. That means she likes it.:burnout:

This woman then started talking about us getting another mustang. Her 82 is long gone...sold. We had a line into a 71 but they don't want to sell now. Her uncle has two foxes.....a 92 5.0 notch and a 93 stock 5.0 lx. Can't wait until we can expand the fleet. She also gave me permission to have a 30 by 40 building built at the family farm. My farm has a 30 by 40 and a 20 by 30 but its got tractors and farm stuff in them. The building at the family farm will be for a shop....with a lift. This won't happen for a couple years...cost will be around 15k. I love this woman more and more every day.....but she better stop sayin' my car sounds like a dang motorcycle :fuss:

When I hit the curb earlier this year I think I damaged my steering coupler. I've already gotten rid of the rag joint and had the shaft machined to accept a 3/4 DD to 3/4 36 spline universal joint. The replacement came today.

My eleven year olds birthday is sunday so I hope I can get this in tomorrow.

Finally got the steering u joint replaced. The shaft on my car is really tight and has to be beat in and out of the column. A real PITA.... but it's done...

While layng under there I noticed this getting worse...

This is the spot where the bumper was cracked all the way to the fog light bezel. The 3m8115 isn't strong enough to hold it. I'm going to use a piece of aluminum and make a brace for it and then repair the new crack. I should've done it with the initial repair but intended to have a lower cover fabricated by now.

Here's what I'll do... there is a hole already in one side that will get a bolt and washer. The other side will get a hole drilled. This left over piece of aluminum wil make the brace.

The other side is going to get the same treatment.

I'll post pictures when I get it done.

PBA not strong enough?! Hummmmmmm.........

I'm sure the bracing you're making will be strong enough though.

I've never had PBA fail me Scott, that sucks.

There's a bunch of stress on the bottom edge of the bumper because it's being bent to conform to the lx bumper. I think that's why it's trying to crack. I sanded the inside with 80 grit, cleaned with grease / wax remover, used adhesion promoter, layered PBA, layed the mesh, spread more PBA, and cured for 24 hours at about 85 degrees.

When I went to install the lower on the lx bumper I did hear a pop. I think there may have been an issue with the adhession promoter. I used a duplicolor aerosol can. I think I may have rushed the set up time for it. ( not really sure ).

Laid down some more 3m8115...

... and the bumper repair 2.0...
20181022_190926.jpg

It's pretty chilly here so it'll be a few days before I can start sanding. The halogen lights are aimed at the bumper. Ther garage is broadly about 65 - 70 degrees. We'll see how this all turns out later this week.

Cool....whatever decade it gets running again, I am going to attempt to fix my fiberglass hood. The back corners are chipped and it fits horribly. On the driver's side I need to add at least 3/8 of an inch front to back to fill the HUGE gap.

This 8115 is the bees knees. The drivers side rear corner of my hood was missing about 1/2 inch and the front edge by the turn signal was missing a bit too. Not anymore...

I've done a bunch of fiberglass work to this hood over the last 15 years. PBA has been the best and easiest to deal with so far.

@ droopie85gt ... I used a dremel to chase the spider cracks. Also, found out that the smaller 3m sandpaper wraps around a toilet paper roll perfectly. It's like having a small sanding block and keeps you from loading up the paper or applying too much pressure. Just don't use it on your rear :nonono:

@ davedacarpainter ... I haven't sanded the bumper yet but this hood turned out great. Just a couple spots to spot fill and it'll almost be ready to be reinstalled. Just some primer and a rattle can away after that. I'm just trying to get this hood to get me through next year. It's got about 10 layers of paint on it. Let's see...high build cream primer, triple stage candy red ( with 4 coats of clear ), primer green, gray primer, svo blue pearl, primer green, and flat black....guess it's more actual layers than 10. Lol

I must admit....I love the smell of bondo....

Some spots came out well with just a coat of primer.

20181024_205419.jpg

Those white lines are primer filled scratches from the 80 grit. Tomorrow I should be able to block the filled areas and get another coat of primer on them. Then paint this weekend the same mat black. Wish i could spray it body color but theres no way it'll match. I'd rather it be black then for it to look unmatched to the car.

The whole car looks like ish anyways

Rain rain go away... come back another day. Rain all weekend. That means no painting the hood.

Covered the engine up.

Since I couldn't prep for paint.... so I started doing the body work on the seam of the bumper. Tomorrow I hope to finish up the front. i used my Dremel with the 45° attachment and marked off 3/8 of an inch. Made quick work of it but it threw melted plastic and PBA dust everywhere.

That's it for tonight...

On the Cobra bumper 1.0 I used 3m4747.... then ( because water and debris got behind it ) I sealed the top edge with seam sealer. Now, I used 3m8115 and it holds the bumper great. The dream dealer is still in the crevices below the LX bumper moldings. This absolutely sucks.

........NOTE TO SELF..... Don't use that crap again on a last bumper. This stuff just rolls up in little gooey balls.....leaving just enough crap behind to be a major PITA :fuss:

Got all the seam sealer out... who knew a pocket screwdriver can be your best friend while doing body work.

I got a bunch done with the first layer of filler applied and sanded.

If anyone's followed this slow progress then you know it's been a couple years to get to this point. I worked on this thing from 10am until just now.

It's coming together, though.
