What does this tell us?

Because it's fast it can look like ass? Guys that think fast is all that matters, and the car can look like crap are the same guys that used to put SBC's in these cars...slightly off center.

The car becomes instantly worth as much as it looks to be.

See, you just don't understand. That car is soo fast, the paint just stripped off the hood!:hide:

BTW, I actually met a guy that put a chevy motor in his notchback. It was built for the strip but I was still like, whaaaat?

I blame Roadkill for crapola like that. I mean I get the premise of "patina", budget and getting a car working with knowhow ...and car part chain sponsors. I wonder how much unsafe junk is on the road because of it though.

I noticed the same thing with the engine swaps. Makes it seem like you need a chevy engine to go fast. Smh.

That chick was seriously freaked out when the white mustang almost creamed her new edge at 140mph.

Correct!! If the name of the game is winning races, it doesn't matter what the car looks like. You are catching on.

Kurt
So why does anybody bother to even paint a race car then? Why waste a dime on the shiny sht? "If the name of the game is winning races, it doesn't matter what the car looks like."
Why not use old spark plugs to plug holes in an intake manifold? Why use hangers to hold up exhaust when wire is just as good? Why bother doing anything past half assed? The rest is wasted effort.

There is a difference between wiring up an exhaust pipe, plugging a hole with a spark plug, using plastic zip ties to hold a radiator in and not painting your car. half assed and not painting your car are different. Leaving the body in its original 'patina' bumps, bruises and missing trim means you can park it in a walmart parking lot and not have to worry about some idiot running a shopping cart into it or some kid running down the side of your car while his stupid mom pays more attention to her phone conversation, now if you used several rattle cans of paint on it to 'make it one color' with over spray on windows and lights is half assed.
I get the question all the time 'why don't you paint it'. I have no interest in painting it, I have had nicely painted cars and a couple new cars only to have them bumped into and/or scratched. Just pisses me off people have no respect for other people's property, I even found a snotty teenaged girl SITTING on my brand new kia!
BTW, my stang has no bailing wire holding up anything. Is my car half assed because I will not paint it? Paint don't make it faster.

Ohhh man...... I wouldn’t even care what my car looked like, to come out and have someone sitting on it would have thrown my “lack of respect” meter to dead red! All too common these days for sure!

No...lets put it into context.
People think a ratty looking car somehow is connected to slow ( stupid people mostly) because there's people like me who'd rather have both. (Shiny and fast)
And along those same lines, there are two kinds of " ugly car owners" #1. there are smart fellers out there that think if they put all the money in the go fast parts, and ignore the shiny, they'll somehow fool the rest of us into thinking that by process of elimination: ugly car = slow.
there's another word for fast ugly car..but it's one of those words like tranny, and dizzy that I hate, so I'm not gonna spell it out, but you can guess it pretty easy.
I find the whole thing laughable. nobody that knows a damn thing about a fast car is fooled by ugly paint. When the car has 325 drag radials on it, and sounds like this one sounds, it may as well have a diamond shape yellow sign in the back glass that reads: bone head on board.
Ugly paint guy #2 lives by the rule that chrome don't go, and just doesn't care. He's the guy that's gonna put an LS in anything and everything because it's a "cheaper way to go fast". and just like having to sit in the drivers seat of a meth fueled car..looking at it makes my eyes hurt.

That pretty much puts it in context. I think.
Ok, so I'm slow and ugly, you can't fire me for that!

It's about respecting what someone is into. Some people like clean cars, some people like low cars, some people like cars with really nice radios. Growing up in Florida, I was amazed that Air Conditioning Mods had not become a thing. And some people just want to go fast, and they put all their money into that. If that's what they are into, there is nothing wrong with that.
