Picked up a new project and one of the first thing it needs is a new ignition switch, looks to be the original one still in it! the problem is that it's not held in by the T27 tamper proof screws but instead what looks like sort of a rivet so not sure how to remove them?? do I just drill them out? and if so how do I then reattach the new one?

I think those are torque to yield screws. At the factory the drive twists off correct torque is achieved. They are hardened and you may have to use an abrasive wheel to remove the head. Then replace with a regular screw.

Cut a slot with a dremel or similar tool. Even a hack saw might work. Then remove with a screwdriver.

This. You will have to cut a slot to basically make it a slotted screw, then turn them out.

I don't think cutting a slot is worth the effort.
Even a quick look at home depot's website has them in stock locally for me.

Clearly tamper proof torx at this point, isn't all that tamper proof anymore, considering how easy you can get them.
Back in the day, you had to make some effort to find them, now they grow on trees.

The early ones had a different type of attaching bolt, the heads snapped off when torque reached. Don't know when the started to use the 'anti-tamper' type.

This is what I have and it's not a T27 tamper proof screws all though when I look closely it sorta looks like corroded tamper proof but very small?? I bought one of those Harbor Freight sets and the smallest one almost fits, I'll try cutting a slot and see if that works
