Is the foxbody used part market dead?

This format is almost the same as an RC forum I was on (until I bought a Foxbody). That Arrma RC site, and this one have been great. Glad I found the right ones!!

I just recently decided to part out my fully intact running 94GT. It did have a cracked stock E7 head, had some rust areas and decided that maybe I could get other 94-95's back on the road with my parts.

I didn't take anything off the car and listed it on Craigslist and OfferUp as a feeler / test. Wanted to see if I should sell just the parts or the entire car intact. Got a bunch of hits, in the first 48 hours I sold a BBK X-pipe. My son said to list on Facebook Market Place. I don't have Facebook so he copy / pasted my Craigslist Ad to the FB Market Place. I couldn't get the parts off the car fast enough.

In 2 weeks I've sold enough parts to cover my initial purchase price. I still have quite a few parts to go. I thought it would take me years, in the two weeks I am averaging $1400 a week so far. I'm on the smaller parts now so that number will decline in week 3. Few hundred more bucks I'm in the green and have a shed full of parts still. Rear End, Rear Upper Control Arms, Rear Lower Control Arms, ABS Unit, Driveshaft, Front A-Arms (new), Front / Rear Sway Bars, Radiator Cooling Fan, Resevoirs (Coolant & Washer Fluid), Trunk, Wing, Inner Fender Linings, Air Bags, Center Consoles, Interior Trim Bezels, I can go on and on.

Craiglist and OfferUp, still get the hits but FB was where I really sold some parts. Had some FOX guys buy parts too so not just SN95 only.

Went from this, BEFORE to that AFTER in 2 weeks. I guess I got lucky.

The Fox/Mustang parts market isn't dead, it just moved on from the forums.

I think one of the reasons this forum is doing so well compared to others is because of the core group of people that frequent it.

There is a huge willingness to help people who come in here with tech problems. People usually don't get talked down to or belittled unless they come in here with an attitude (or really bad spelling). The people who are here also aren't a clique. There have been plenty of members who have arrived, contribute a lot, and are welcomed as part of the forum in very short order. (e.g.: :demon:, etc.)

All the above has created an environment that usually causes the would-be d-bags to self-eliminate. It's also a product of the maturity level of the people who frequent this forum. A lot of older people who are still into or getting back into the Mustang game. Go back to some of the threads from the early-2000s and you'll see the difference in the discourse.

I will buy good parts from Craigslist or OfferUp but don’t need common stuff always looking for good buys or stuff I may need or use in future.
Not a fan of eBay seller gets hosed either way from buyer, eBay, or pay pal. Can’t support eBay PayPal hosing seller!
it also seems here in Az not much good stuff being sold that has value. All common parts can be bought at most part houses. But many looking for nice interior stuff, speed parts in good shape, wheels tires, and of course Saleen, or Cobra stuff.
But most import me personally if I need something I buy from Ford dealership first not risking buying used part from someone. But there is some stuff left in Ford shelves just need to put the effort in as well.

Definitely true.

The FB fox-body forums are mostly populated by a younger, male crowd. Too many big egos trying to one-up each other, be the baddest, or prove they are the best or just want attention.

I had a '96 F-150 with that style of wheel. You can't really find those anymore. I loved those wheels...and that truck.

I've noticed it as well, the classifieds on sites like this and corral used to be a hot bed for buying and selling.
I don't do Facebook but wonder if there's more action buying/selling using that media.

I wouldn't say that :rlaugh:

It was pretty good when there were a couple hundred unique users logged in each day. It's not so much that forums died because of social media as much as it is search engines. You don't have to register and search the site anymore  Just Google it and get site results.

People who register are generally either enthusiasts or couldn't find an easier solution to their problem.

We maintain the classifieds for the enthusiasts and membership. If someone outside of that circle benefits from a classified ad, that's ok too. :) Maybe they'll become an enthusiast.

Corral has definitely died for selling parts . It’s all in the Facebook groups . I have sold a lot of stuff on corral , unfortunately our classifieds I don’t think ever yielded me any sales. But now that place sucks !

I was never a fan of the actual forum itself even before the format . Stangnet has always been home

This is very interesting as I have picked up some stuff to sell, kinda obscure though, t top roof with glass and a 84 svo turbo with manifold, filter box with whatever that thing attached under it, cooler and computer, wish me luck.

Personally never tried buying anything on Facebook. Deactivated my Facebook back in September and couldn’t be happier.

I’ve bought multiple parts at decent prices and even two sets of wheels and tires for my 2014 on SVTPerformance. The Fox Body parts market seems pretty dead over there though, unfortunately.

I’ve had mixed luck with craigslist but I would also suggest checking out the apps LetGo and OfferUp. I found my fox on OfferUp and have seen a few people selling parts on both apps.

The hay day was late 90's and early 2000's (the 4.6L era). We had it good, last of the pushrod V8's ended in 1995 and people were paying off their cars by 2000. That meant buying more performance mods since the car was paid. I got my Vortech Supercharger, Heads, Cam, etc. in 2001.

The forums were ripping back then. You could reply to something, refresh and your thread would be on page 2 already.

Parts sales were insane, I sold my Supercharger on here in 10 minutes. Wish I could rewind the clock, I'd do it all over again the same way too.
