Just wanted some info I had a 2010 Grand Marquis motor put in my 01 GT and it is missing the etc sensor on the aluminum crossover. What is the best way to get a hole drilled for the sensor? Will the manifold have to be removed? Just want to know my best option as I don't have any drilling experience let alone tools to use atm. Thank you

Just wondering......Does the original 2001 GT motor have an intake manifold with the metal crossover? If so, have you considered either swapping the whole intake from the donor? Or it's possible to just swap the metal part from the old to the new.

Yes my original motor did have the metal crossover on the intake manifold. Thing is though the guy that did the swap for me found the intake from my original motor wasn't from Ford and just a knock off brand replacement(Dorman I believe?). The intake that I got with the new motor is an official Ford brand P.I. intake manifold. I wish i took pics but i actually got to compare them side by side and could see differences in the intakes. Old one had a drilled hole on the crossover for etc sensor, this Ford one does not which i found interesting.

The later model year Panthers do not use an ECT sensor. Instead they use a CHT sensor. Therefore there's no reason for Ford to build up the boss on the casting nor to drill and tap the boss.

There is some risk that If you were to drill and tap a hole where there's not the thickness of a boss there's some risk of cracking.

Yes I know that a Dorman intake is not the best intake. But if the sealing surfaces of the heads are smooth then the Dorman unit will seal. But best of all, the cost is zero since it's available.
