2013 Mustang GT pad and rotor change, need help.

I am changing out the pads and rotors for the first time on my car. This picture is the front. My caliper piston is compressed and has plenty of clearance. I however can not get my caliper to clear my pads. The circled item looks like it could be compressed but I’m not sure if they can be. I have searched everywhere and can not find an answer. Does anybody here have any advice?

That part is your caliper slide pin. It should move freely. If it doesn't, try lightly tapping it with a hammer and/or twisting it with a wrench to free it up. Once free, remove it and clean it with a wire brush or scotch brite pad, and grease it before reinstalling it (that's what those little packets they try to push off on you at the parts stores are for).

No problem, it's actually a fairly common issue on the S197 Mustangs.

You do know the rear caliper plunger, screws in and doesn't push in like the front ones do? I bought a brake tool kit from Amazon that has several different size special sockets (for the rear) to make it easy to do
