Progress Thread “Rising from Ashes 5” 86 4 eye T-TOP notch build

  • Sponsors (?)

Appreciate the Prodding. I’ve just been buried in customer projects. Got like 10-11 new builds just dropped off in the last couple months. But we will get progress going back on some of the threads soon.

The only real reason to swap is for wheel choice.

If you already have that piece worked out... There are lots of nice 4-wheel brake upgrades out there. Pretty convenient for folks who really like their 10-holes. :p
If he delivers the car with less than 300 RWHP then ok... but otherwise we need to talk about brake upgrades and safety and the 4 lug options might work but to meet the demands would be stupid expensive. It's the age old question of "yes, you can... but why?"

I suppose it just depends on what you're trying to do. I had this same discussion with MRaburn about the white 86.

Here's another wrinkle... I possess everything necessary to do the Cobra Brake conversion. Now, I'm second-guessing because I really want to keep my OEM wheels.

For the red/black unit above... why would anyone keep the 4 lug setup?
Ummm, I am not using 4 lugs. I just use old 4 lug axles to hold my rear end off the ground after the coating so they dont have to sit on anything. I didn’t even own a 4 lug wheel until I started buying up all these 4 eyes. 86 and 85 will be 5 lugs with disc brakes all around

Ive built plenty if cars for customers for this very reason. There are a lot of purists out there that will not bend on oem wheels. I’m just not one of them. I can’t leave any car stock

So far as I know, this is as close as I can get and a pretty good reason to spend a little more dough on the 4-lug disk:

Here they are on MRaburn's restoration:

I [really] like this and to me, the raised white lettering and 4-eyes just go together.

^^^^^^^^
ten holes with raised white letters is a classic look. And just an FYI. I make a kit that allows cobra 13 front and 11.65 rear discs to work with 4 lugs so its really not that hard or expensive to keep them and still have good brakes. I have an old set of HRE wheels In 5 lug I’ll probably use on the 85 T-Top

Ahhhh... I've added that note to "The Book [dun-dun-dun]". I'll hit you up about that in PM (if you don't already have a thread about it :stick:) as I get closer to getting it back out and doing some work on it.
