A little help please IAC

Good morning. I recently bought a mustang I know it had a tune on it but the previous owner said the tuner was stolen. I took the IAC valve off to clean it bc I had a rough idle (high then low then high) when I put it back on the car starts gets down to about 800 then just dies. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated

A lot of the times it’s best to just buy a new motor craft one (don’t get any other brand) sometimes cleaning an old used is not effective.

Perform the idle reset procedure first. If you search you’ll find dozens of posts on how to do it

Edit: dammit. Thought this was the fox board. Nevermind disregard

I assume you have a GT? I found out the hard way you are not supposed to clean the 4.6 IAC. I did that to my 96 earlier this year and it ran just like yours does. Wont idle and dies. I wanted to clean it because it had a hanging idle. I read after I cleaned it that you are not supposed to do it. I ended up buying a new motorcraft one and it runs good again.

Yes it’s a GT. Well It looks as tho I’m finding out the hard way as well. Thank you for the input, very much appreciated. I’ll go ahead and order a new one and I’ll post when it’s fixed.
