Build Thread 1978 Fairmont. I bet somebody back home’s thinkin’…I wonder why he don’t write..?

Since i’m not really doing much of nothing here, that isn’t stopping me from planning/scheming what i want to do to the monster to keep pushing him out of the box.

The overhead console is still on the to-do list when I get home. Re-doing the other hood, and putting a more aggressive hood scoop design is also going to happen. I’d like to configure it so that it will actually feed a sealed box air filter system that will not detract from the open hood look of the engine bay…(big challenge to myself).

Parts that are on the possible replacement list are the battery and the alternator. I don’t think there’s really anything wrong with the alternator, i just don’t think it’s up to the electrical system draw i am asking of it. The red top seems to have zero reserve capacity though. It really doesn’t take too much to drain that dude to dead it seems,…ill charge it and take it somewhere that isn’t oreillys, and have them do a load test, if that is the correct thing to do.

Its one week since I got home from Mexico.
We like that place so much we really got serious about buying a 2/2 condo down there for ourselves, So much so I was willing to put the monster up for sale….but the financing, and required out of pocket monies to do so brought us to our senses…

Ill just have to be content to pay somebody else’s’ Mexican mortgage for the foreseeable future…

Before I left, I tore the interior out of the car, so as to be able to get the quarter windows out so that tint dude could do his thing. I picked them up last tuesday…the brand new rattle can satin black paint that i had coated the trim surrounding the glass was fcked up as a rats’ ass. The tint has visible trash trapped in the corners…

”Uhhhh,….without being able to separate the glass from that rubber gasket that surrounds it, every time we blew it dry after cleaning it, more junk kept fouling the cleaned surface”..

Well since I cannot separate the glass from that rubber surround, I guess I’ll just have to live with it.

Today was the first day I was able to work on the car..I taped up the quarter windows, scuffed off all of the fcked up paint, and re-rattle canned the things in SEM trim black….They ended up looking really good,…but i’m not touching them till Thursday.

I got my 3m Vinyl striping tape while I was gone…I am using this stuff to hide the the margins around the windshield and back glass that the metal trim pieces won’t hide..

I got it to do what I wanted it to do,….but it was a giant pain in the ass. Trying to get a 1” wide piece of vinyl tape to bend w/o wrinkling, kinking or getting a bagillion bubbles in it proved to be at the end of my list of qualifications.

The overhead console is well on its way.. Still a ways from being complete, but looking exactly like the one sitting on top of the transmission tunnel..( only much closer to the top than it is to the bottom)

Still missing is the rail that the mesh will sit on, the local metal supplier didn’t have.I had to order it from online metals. (It’ll be here Tuesday.)
Once I get the rail welded, i can cut the mesh to fit, then cap it with the rest of the 1/4 x 1/8” cold rolled flat bar that i’ll use to make that.
Then I‘ve got to mock it up,…Then I’ve got to fab the mount to allow me to mount it to the roof,…then I’ve got to wire it w/ enough foresight to allow for future switches to control whatever kinda sht I can think of..
Then,….Ive gotta find some lights,…map and dome,….
Then,…smoothing, primer, paint..

If I was that guy in tennessee that builds 10 cars a month, this piddly little project would be done in a few days,…but I’m me..

This’ll take a few weeks.

I asked my boss once why he doesnt buy a house out where he skis all the time. He said "well when I'm not there it costs me money and if i rent it i have to deal with that, the way i see it is i can rent whatever i want and leave at the end of my trip and not think about whatever needs to be done to the place ect.." I thought that made a lot of sense

Hey…
Do some things…
Thank you.
I am in process Raggedy. This is yet another project that nobody here will benefit from, so no point in going over a step by step. The only thing generic here was that the headliner was removed, wires were ran, the headliner was put back. Everything else is Monster-specific.

Are we going to get the usual success /failure fit throw'n fur fly'n Kate shaking her head and making funny noises trying to imitate whatever sounds coming from the lair description of the work being done? No?
that will be disappointing.

I guess he's gotta stay gone until he comes back and sucks up to whomever.

I've got no idea how he does that when he's banned, but ???

I don't see his apparent offense as being any worse than any of the other overstated opinions, including those coming from people with the ban-hammer. :hide:

I’ve read back a few pages a few times. What even was the apparent offense? I guess I missed it?

It is in a different thread. Giant opinion thread.

One of the mods decided Mike's opinion and/or way of expressing it was objectionable.

Hope he's getting a lot done on the car. Or maybe he's given up on cars and taken up quilting.
