Body shop quotes for paint

  • Sponsors (?)

I've done my own Motorcycles before, and had some pretty good results! That said, I don't have the room or the skills to do what needs to be done to my car.

went to another shop today. Said he wont take it on as 90% of the shops are collision body shops these days and that is their bread and butter. Said i should tear the car down and not do a scuff and shoot as it is a repaint over the factory paint. Told me that shops dont want this work and will quote me stupid high prices as they dont want to do this "restoration" type of work. I am now seripusly thinking of finding someone out of this area who WANTS to paint cars and will do it right.

Paging @95steedamustang ...

Seriously, there's a waiting line, but man, I wouldn't (and haven't) trust my PoS to anyone else. His rate is shocking for the quality of his work. The ONLY bad part of it is that he will talk you into all the things you always wanted to do but held back on... but like the crack head I am I love it.

Not sure where you're located, but shipping from DFW to Sweetwater, TN was was under $700 (twice now lol). It is not a fast process though, plan for 1-2 years depending on what is needed.

I'm telling ya ask around car shows about local maacos, there's all way one that can turn out a decent job for sub 4k in base clear. There the only "shops" left who do it unless you find an older painter who still does side work. Its not just your area im in NJ and its the same here lol. Collison shops are packed with parts shortages still, none them want to do a full respray and deal with customers unless there making bank on it.

Guy that did my Dodge had a shop in his backyard and worked

out of his wheel chair....... He helped me through out the resto with an occasional fender, help paint my dash, and other smaller items until we tackled the whole thing.... These guys are out there, Keep looking.
Have you asked any of the Auto paint suppliers in your area?? Thats where these guys buy their product......

Thanks for the love @bird_dog0347 .
Yes, I am pretty well booked up for 2-3 years. I own 6 collission shops but have a manager who deals with them. Dont take a car to one of those. Quality is job number 10 behind techs making commission on how fast they turn and burn them. I pick and choose my projects mainly based on how I like the project and how I get along with the owner. Every project I work
On now are good friends. But if a project speaks to me, I’ll still find time for it.

Its not. I’m tempted to retire and go down there and day drink and steal cars with @General karthief
In reality you need to stay up there, I would love to find a place in north Georgia/south Tennessee but I'm not going into debt to do it, our little corner of town is getting smaller every year.
Not that I wouldn't welcome you, just it's getting crowded and the level of stupid is rising.

Find something to hold onto. @karthief getting on the turnpike:

I knew a guy with a Freightshaker dump truck, 450hp (can't remember torque numbers) com-a-long that he could 'turn up 'to 550hp, astronomical torque numbers at like 1k rpms, like locomotive numbers, that was years ago.
You couldn't do that in California, you'd go to jail and the truck would be crushed. (Heard that from a friend)
