Hello, i have a question.

What is the major difference in the 5 speed transmissions from a v8, and one from a four cylinder from 89-93 mustangs??? I have a 93 LX with a 5liter automatic, and i also have a 89 lx four cylinder parts car. I want to swap the transmissions but will it work? what modifications do i need to do to make the swap? Any info would be greatly appreciated thanks TIm

Im an ex parts man and have dealed with this problem quite often........the T5 from the 4cyl is actually just as strong as the V8 model.
the guts to the tranny are identical except for the input shaft wich has been machined down in diameter at the tip to mate with the 4cyl cranks smaller diameter. the diamater of the input shaft is the exact dimension as chevy T5 pilot bearings, inner dimension only.......can aquire pilot bearing from Napa like i did by having parts man look up inner dimension of 4 cyl bearing and outer bearing dimensions of the ford 5.0 and finding the correct dimension bearing in the bearing catalog.....if i remember correctly it is a 3202RSJ, but i may be wrong on the exact part number do to the fact that i made the swap 4 years ago, the bearing needed is commonly used for alternators/and some foreign rice burners actual pilot bearing.
the only upgrade i made to the 4cyl T5 im useing was the bearing retainer wich is alum. being replaced with the cast iron retainer obtained from jegs raceing or summit raceing or any parts store that deals with raceing.
my 4cyl T5 is currently liveing behind a 347 stroker produceing 415-RWHP!
as long as you dont bolt up slicks it will stand up fine.
