I know this has somewhat been covered a billion times but I needed to know a specific cost because:

I drive a 2000 V6 automatic and my dad might be able to get a hold of a V8 and 5speed tranny.

What would I need to replace in my car to be compatible with a V8 and new tranny and about how much would that run me?

I bought my car brand new about 15 months ago, and total cost of the car to date is ~25k. That's EVERYTHING, including swap and going through a couple transmissions, fried PCM, etc etc. Without my brother (works at a Ford dealership so I get the hookup) and dad's help I definitely would not have finished this project. Do not take it lightly!!

If it helps, I got the car new for a little over 14k. So all modifications so far = $11500. Of that I'm not sure how much the swap was - right now I'm too lazy and sick :nonono: to think about it.

P.S. I can't wait for something to break again. The more that breaks, the faster I go.

Ok...flipped through a few of my receipts...

I attached a spreadsheet mentioning the MAJOR items (and cost) that it took me to get my swap finished. This is definitely NOT 100% complete or the most cost efficient way to do this though... hopefully di0de will be able to help some more.

Is the V8 engine/tranny from a 99+ car? Do you plan on sticking pretty close to stock?

I imagine your car came equipped with PATS. After I replaced my gauge cluster and PCM the car thought it was stolen. Yippie! My brother had to reprogram the keys and ?configure? the PCM to resolve this issue.

I realize I don't have much hard information to offer but hopefully you can find something useful in all of my blabbering... btw di0de feel free to edit that spreadsheet with your stuff and throw it back up here to the masses. It would be nice if we could get something solid on paper for others to use.

EDIT: Can't upload Excel spreadsheets, so I just dropped it in a MS Word doc.

im assuming you swapped in a 99+ cobra motor? if u did, where the hell can i get one for that price?

Me? Unfortunately not... Went from the 02 V6 to a 01 supercharged SOHC V8. I wish i could separate some of the costs a little more, but ended up picking up the front half of a wrecked GT for CHEAP. Ebay can be your best friend! I've seen some good deals on www.karkraft.com as well. http://www.karkraft.com/engines.htm

My v8 swap (94 V6 >> 02 SOHC V8) cost me around 6 grand and put my car out of commission for several months. There are a ton of parts to buy. (that's what took my swap so long, I kept having to go and get more stuff from the salvage yard, and it ended up costing a lot more than I expected, so I would go get more stuff every paycheck)
