Since we are all here discussing the 2005 Mustang, lets look back a reflect on the old days. It's well know here at work that I am a Mustang fan. I have pics of my 93 and 97 Cobras everywhere. One day a fellow co-worker decided to strike up a conversation with me about Mustangs. Now this person know absolutely nothing about cars. He drives a Lexus, nice car, but he only drives it. Anyhow, he told me when he was a kid his uncle had a mustang convertible and would come pick them all up in the summer and go to the beach. He said how fast it was and all that. Well I asked the year, engine, etc. Here is what he said, It was a 1962 Mustang Convertible, red with white interior and top, with a 350 and a 5speed.

Am I missing something here. :bang:

1962 was the best year for mustangs'. Boy, does that year bring back great memories. I really love that powerful 350 w/ 5spd. I have been looking for that model for a years, but no luck. I wonder why? I guess everyone is keeping them. Oh well!

Tha's almost as bad as one of my jackass buddies at the superbowl saying that the Corvette was originally made to compete with the mustang :rlaugh:

Why would Ford build the Corvette to compete with the Mustang?
Sounds like poor marketing to me. :nonono:
Thats almost as bad as Dodge trying to market the 440 Hemi with beer!

hhaha, guys like that a great source of entertainment. a buddy of mine used to work at the peace bridge (international crossing b/w fort erie, ontario and buffalo, new york) and worked with this guy that said his car was a 93 cobra. i was like "damn, i need to see it...NOW" as i've not been fortunate enough to see a REAL 93 cobra in front of me. well, to make a long story short i was skeptical as it is a small town and i hadn't seen ANY real 93 cobras so i began to inquire about the car when my buddy says ".....blahblahblah....it's a convertible..." hahaha, right there i said to my boy there were no 93 cobra verts and this guy is pulling the wool over his eyes.

anyhow, go school your buddy on the best pony car of all time. if he thinks is uncle had a '62 imagine what he'll think when you tell him the first mustang was a 64 1/2.

Funny... except that the first production (which is what I believe you meant) Mustang was a 65. They weren't called 64 1/2 until decades later. I still have the bill of sale (May 1964) for my 1965 Mustang convertible, 289 4v 4-speed. The first Mustang was a 62 - one-off. Then there were 10 or so 63 Mustang II show cars built - which looked a LOT like the production one to come later (much more like it than the currently shown "concept cars").

My ex father in law said some stupid comment like that once. He said a buddy of his had a 63 Mustang. I was trying to be polite, so I didn't say anything. I just never could take a word he said as truth from then on. But, this coming from a guy with a daughter that he couldn't make up lies for.
