Hello everyone. This is my first actual post, and I hope that everyone will be as helpful as I have seen them to be in the past. I currently own a 2000 V6 Convertible, and am considering trading in on a gt convertible. I have found them from 96 to 2001 are in my range and insurance concerns. I am 30, with a perfect driving record. I am wondering what the differences are between the years, or if the year makes much of a difference. This will be my regular driver, and only vehicle, so it has to be reliable. Any suggestions on things to look for, and information about these years would be appreciated.

99+ has 260hp and is lighter , better looking 99-00 dont have hoodscoop and the big side scoops..01-04 have these...98 and below..its just old heavy and slow..but still look sexy

I recently got a 98GT and I love it. I personally like it better than the 99+. The 99+ looks bigger to me. I like the sleekness of the 98. So don't diss the 96-98. Whatever you get, get the 4.6

yea, you either like the curves or boxiness, 96-97 are what 215hp? 98 was 220? i know they did a cpu flash or something in 98...i liked my 95 cobra still only 240hp though 99+ still faster...99+gt can hang with a 96-98 cobra

I'd rather dirve a late 5.0 (94-95) than an early 4.6 (96-98). Same HP but more TQ with the old pushrod engine. Much easier to reach 300 rwhp with the 5.0 with cheaper mods. Heads/cams/intakes,etc. are REALLY expensive for the 4.6. They're (comparitively) dirt @$$ cheap for the 5.0.

That's true.

96-98 GT's are more rounded they still have the 4.6 litre engine but produce 215 to 225 hp the 99 GT is the 35th anniversary and has different badging then the 00+ the 99+ also produces 260 hp like everyone else has said the GT's also have dual exhaust set ups and also have fog lights. If it were up to me I would fork out the extra money for a 99+........Good luck in your search and welcome to the 4.6 world........you will enjoy it much more than the 6 cyl.

:nice:

The 5.0 mustangs have 225 hp, but a 99 + gt will smoke it.
The 96 & 97 gt's have 215 hp and are very slow.
The 98 gt's have 225, but i smoked one of them by a couple cars.
get a 99 + gt, the are much faster, look much better, and have a lot more options.
The 99 to 04 are no different other than the hood scoop and side scoops.
You can get a 99 or 00 gt and put the scoops on the car for about $200 or $300.
The 99 + gt's run low 14's, but all depends on the driver. You can put a couple mods on your car and it will fly. We marked off a quarter mile and I ran my car stock at 99 miles and hour in a quarter mile. With my three mods i ran 110 miles and hour. Haven't ran my car at the track yet, but im in the high 13's.

2000 and up GT's Have a Better bottom end in the engine.. I Run mine with a 100 shot of nitrous and i haven't had a problem yet.

:nonono: 99-00(Windsor engine) GT's have the same forged crank as in the Cobra.
But, lets not start that discussion.
