does anybody here know how to correctly replace the weather stripping that goes along the pillar post on a convertible?

i had all of my weatherstripping replced when i did my top and the only part that came out bad was that part of the weatherstripping. the person at the shop told me that the weatherstripping is bad. so i called back 50resto and they told me that most people don't know that this one strip of metal needs to be removed to correctly install the stripping. so i went to another shop and told them what the 50resto guy told me but they were not able to fix it. the weather stripping does not sit where it is supposed to so it makes it difficult to close and open the doors.

but back to my question, what do i need to do to replace it? what type of glue do i use? thanks

There is special weather strip adhesive that you can purchase fromt the local parts store. The stuff I used was made by 3M. As far as your weather strip goes if the weather stripping does not sit where it is suppose to then you got hosed and should get a new piece. I replaced all mine myself it was really easy. There were a couple pieces that were not exactly like the stock strips but I just moved them around a bit until I was satisfied with the fit.

the whole weatherstipping kit cost about $190 from 50 resto but i suggest you don't buy it from them(atleast that part of the weatherstripping). it looks and fits terrible.

jikelly, where did you buy your weatherstripping from?
