My car is almost done with all the styling mods but i dont want to stop their. I have some questions, i have a 1996 gt, that is very slow to me, 14.1 is my best.
1. What is the difference in the cobra motor and the lincoln 32v dohc besides the compresion. and stroke difference. b/c i can get a lincoln motor ALOT cheaper.
2. What wiring will i have to change to swap to the cobra or to the 5.4 dohc motor.

I really would like to do the 5.4 dohc motor but if its going to be alot more work then the cobra i don think i am going to mess with it. The goal is to have a turbo or supercharger on it in the end also.
I need some imput before i get myself into a big mess
Thanks
Matt
if somebody would like to explain all this to me over the phone so they dont have to type out a 5 page letter, that would be very cool

If you're going with a power adder of any type, than I would definately go with a forged shortblock. Check out VTEngines - they have some good 4.6 sohc and dohc options.

difference between the two engines, the exhaust cams are different, the crank is cast on the lincoln, different intake. Indy, huh? I just moved to Greenfield (from Fort Wayne).

If you got with a DOHC engine youy may need to look into EEC changes of some sort (most likely a chip). Ever think of just going with the new style GT heads/intake?

ime trying to turn my cobra to a cobra r
where can i find a cobra r engine
and when i do ide be looking to sell my 4.6 cobra dohc engine
many mods just about every bolt on
no internals

I am most likely going to do the 5.4 dohc lighting motor, i just have to find out what computer changes i will need to make as well as making it fit. If i cant find this information out, i would be interested in the cobra motor, what kind of dollars are you asking?
Thanks
Matt

If you're going for a cobra R transformation the lightning motor is a sohc 5.4, that barely revs over five grand. How about the Navigatore 5.4 dohc? Change the cams, intake, and rework the heads, ofcourse good luck finding some of those 'R' parts. Most of them aren't listed in the FRPP catalog. The FR500 heads and intake will work with the 5.4 dohc. Personally I would not want a truck motor in a car that runs out of steam at five grand. Not that the lightning motor is a slug or anything. It's just a truck motor.

Ford actually had a test mule mustang with a lightning engine in it, and the stang was too nose heavy. Straight line was good, but handling and stopping went to s**t. It would be nice to have the 5.4 dohc like the 00'R that pulls all the way to seven grand!
