I went into a muffler shop today browsing around town and preparing myself for the true dual exhaust system i want in my 3.8. I asked him some questions... tell me if this sounds right? From what ive heard about H-pipes X-Pipes and whatnot this mechanic sounded wrong to me.

Q: Why does it void the warranty?
A: Because ill be cutting your cats off.

Q: Are you going to put my Cats Back?
A: No

Q: Where are you going to cut it to make this True Dual System?
A: Behind the cats and im going to put in a special S tube that will create the 2 sperated true dual system.

Q: Isnt that S tube supposed to be a H-Pipe?
A: No

Q: What about the Emissions?
A: I wont be touching anything that has to do with O2 control therefore nothing is going to change as far as emissions go

Q: Whats the Rust factor?
A: Same as any other exhaust unless you want to spend an extra $1000 for me to install a stainless steel system.

Q: How again to you Acheive the true dual system?
A: I cut behind your Cats and weld two seperate 2.25 pipes up to your engine.

Q: How much?
A: around $500

How does this guy sound? Ill still prolly shop around more but i trust you guys for imput more than some rude dude in a purple muffler shop called Magic Muffler.

Would i be better off buying the Flowmasters online from somewhere and having a mechanic install it all? If so please link me.

Standard 40 Series mufflers or Delta? Which is better?

Just dont wanna get :owned: .

well, we bought a Catback exhaust online from MAC for my 1995 V6 at a total of 299 bux with shipping and the neccesary brackets. its a bit different im sure, having to put an h pipe on or whatever, but ours was a driveway job... took between 1 1/2 - 2 hours, removing the old exhaust and putting the new dual exhaust on. It didnt even seem that hard to ME...
[but then again my father, who basically installed them, is an ASE certified car and truck technician for Hunter Parts And Service... so he knows cars...]
My old exhaust got :owned: . I seriousely had a good excuse for getting a new exhaust, my old one was hanging really low, my car isnt lowered or anything, but it would bottom out on all the speedbumps X_X , my new one is much better, so much so i plan on lowering it with some steeda springs :D
now i have an excuse for getting new high flow cats or *gasp* off road pipes, because my first passenger side cat is smashed :notnice:

He contradicted himself. He first said he was cutting your cats off. Then he said he was making the cut behind the cats. And wtf is an "S" pipe. He's full of $h!t. Buy the mac bolt-on y-pipe duals. Cheap, easy, and sound great.

I think the guy you talked to is full of ***** and doesn't want your business, take it somewhere else. "MY OPINION ONLY" but he is trying to :owned: you. I had trouble getting true duals on my car too, the original guy i took my car too, charged 400 and didn't want to do it cause its a little work to put duals on a newer mustang, not as easy as most cars, finally i got fed up with his crap and took it to another shop, they got my car in that day, same day service is great, and put 2.25 aluminized piping that will probably outlast my car, stainless chromed tips and made a custom H pipe for 300 bucks. I just had him put 18 in. glass packs on too, they sound great with my shorty headers. :nice:

:stupid:

Also, I have a stainless steel setup. MAC uses stainless pipes. Flowmaster uses aluminized steel. i had a custom built X pipe...all stainless steel. It cost me $100 for the cat back, and $120 for the X pipe. He's a dumbass! I have never even heard of an S pipe either. Honestly, would you give me his shop's phone number? I want to call posing as a customer...you wont be mentioned at all, promise. I want to see what he would say to someone who knows what he's talking about. And how much I can prove him wrong :rlaugh:

oh and here are the real answers to your questions

Q: Why does it void the warranty?
A: you are cutting into the emissions system and putting a non ford part on it.

Q: Are you going to put my Cats Back?
A: The cats shouldn't come off.

Q: Where are you going to cut it to make this True Dual System?
A: Directly behind the cats, cut the pipe. it's a 2.25" pipe, then run that down to an X or H pipe. from there you would either bolt or weld on your flow pipes which will go to your muffler, tails, etc.

Q: Isnt that S tube supposed to be a H-Pipe?
A: H or X pipe

Q: What about the Emissions?
A: If you don't touch your cats, your emissions wont be hurt at all. Your O2 sensor is actually screwed into your 2nd stage of cats.

Q: Whats the Rust factor?
A: Go with a good MAC system and you'll have stainless steel, you won't need to worry about rust or anything.

Q: How again to you Acheive the true dual system?
A: cutting behind the cats and welding a mid pipe on, then attaching your flow pipes, mufflers, and tails.

Q: How much?
A: around $100 for a GT Takeoff exhaust, $300 is a good price for a MAC bolt on system, where you just unbolt your current pipe, and it is a reverse Y pipe. In all honestly, you won't loose but maybe 3-5 hp going this way, vs a H or X pipe. And it's a lot easier. And you can do it yourself. AND it's a lot cheaper. I paid a muffler shop $120 to build my custom X pipe. Although I got a good deal.

I'm going out to jack my car up and take some pix of the setup. I'll post 'em later. -Chris

Okay, here are some pix of mine

These are just an extra set of cats that I have lying around.

this is my x pipe from the front of my car looking back, you can kinda see the mufflers down the way

and here you go looking from the back up towards the engine area.

where you see the bottom of the cats...thats where it is cut off at, to weld a mid-pipe on.

man i'd really like that number to call them and see just what the hell they're thinking....you can private msg it to me if you'd rather.
