Nov. issue of Motor Trend: Auto GT goes 13.6 @ 99

Thats pretty cool, right about what I thought it would run but look at the low trap speed of 99 mph? :notnice: The GTO traps at 105 mph, oh ya....it also weighs 500 pounds more then the GT

BTW: I thought you guys HATED magazine racing and now because of favorable numbers you all love it and accept it? This is the same Motor Trend magazine that claims they "spanked a 2003 SVT Cobra" with an Evo in a heat match and when I posted it, you all called :bs: hmmm, what to believe?

I don't think anyone here is saying these times are gospel. This is merely the first test. Not more estimated times. Which means they are likely to be slightly more accurate than what has been shown in the past.

As for other cars. If you like the other car... Buy it. Don't hangout in a mustang forum acting like a used car salesman. Sure the Srt-4 is a decent car. If you want a fast neon with a big wing. Sure the EVO is a nice car. If you want a 4 door sedan with a big wing. And the GTO. Sure it's a nice car with a lot of power. If you want a heavy tank that looks like a rental car. I personally don't want either. But I am not going to try to force my views on another board. I could care less if my car is supposed to be slower than any other car on the road. As long as it is what I want. I get that you are an EVO fan. So go hangout on the EVO boards. Instead of coming here just to bash on the 05 and it's owners.

And as for being an enthusiast. Buying the fastest car does not make you an enthusiast of anything other than speed. I am a mustang enthusiast. I like mustangs and participate in boards like this and go to shows. I am even working on starting a company to make parts for different mustangs. I would say I am more of an enthusiast than you. Since I can narrow my focus down to 1 car that I like. Not preach about the merits of 3 cars. That I don't own.

I think the Evo fanatic's are funny. You're basically paying 30 grand for a car which has a base model that costs under 9 grand. 03-04's being advertised for like 8899 by me.
What does that have to do with anything? Are Cobra owners funny because they paid 33k for a car that has a base model that costs under 14k?

I dont know where he is but ya, the SRT-4 IS cheaper by about $6K. It posts almost identical times but also traps higher then 99 mph which is very weak. Oh ya, it also handles, corners and brakes better too but no biggie right?

It was an automatic and it shifted into 4th before the end of the quarter. 4th gear in the auto is an O/D gear which accounts for drop-off in speed. I'll bet the manual traps much higher than 99.

If you dislike the Mustang so much and like everything else, why are you here?

OH YEAH! Now I remember....you're a troll!

the srt-4 handles like a freaking a tank....its a pile of crap.
I second that, because I HAVE driven the SRT-4 on a track. Body-roll like a delivery van, brakes like a 10-speed bike, and once you toss the wheels, the wing and the boost gauge, you're sitting in a $29.95/day rent-a-car Neon. But it's quick!!! . And mball, you talk smack as if the new '05 Mustang will careen off the road if you turn the wheel slightly. Get a life. When you look at the new GT OVERALL, not just one aspect, it's a solid performance value with gobs of style and features. Those are factors that the SRT-4 and the EVO fall face-down on. Alot of us here aren't willing to sleep with a butt-ugly trashy girl, just because she can knock boots with the best of them.... Understand??

Oh, I didn't know LT1 F-bodies ran mid 13's?? My Bullitt is faster than a stock LT1 (I have driven several and they're quick, but they are not awesome). They can talk all the **** they want with an LS1, but the LT1 vs. a 99-04 is a driver's race. Now vs. the '05 I thinks it's gotta go to the '05 hands down.

12 years after the LT1 debuts, Ford can beat it... :hail2:

13.6 that is awesome. And MT can't drive either. They got a 15.1 out of my car and I ran stock 14.0's at 102. Waiting to see what it will do after I get my bolt ons and BFG KDW's on. But I may just wait and get an 05 if they are that fast. I was not a big fan at first but they have grew on me and obviously has some impressive power for the 3V V8.

Hoofbeats are faster than heartbeats

I respect the neon's power per dollar, but thats about it. I just couldnt be seen driving a neon. I dont care if it had 600HP, ran 9s, and was only 20K...its still a neon!!!

Can you imagine trying to pick up chicks with that car, lol.

"Hey baby, climb in the back..I have four doors!!!" :rlaugh:

Ya, I understand, I understand you dont know what you are talking about. Who would want Brembo brakes that stop on a dime? a Momo steering wheel that controls one of the quickest steering responses in any production car ever built? A world class suspension that allows you to slice and dice a track? or a turbocharged engine that lets you keep up with (or beat) cars with double the hp and price? All for less than $30K? Ya, the Evo sure doesn't have solid performance at all

You may understand that. But you are having a real problem understanding this is a mustang board. If we are on here and not trolling. Then we like the mustang and are considering it for purchase. No matter what percieved deficencies you see. :nonono:

So you are suggesting that a best buy is a cheap-looking-grocery-getter lancer evo made by one of the worst brands in the word.

A good car is not only measured by the performance numbers, but as the whole package. Is an Evo better than a BMW 3-series (the bimmer is more $), well… let me tell you that even if the BMW 3-series is slower and more expensive, the bimmer is a better overall car than the Evo, is the Evo better than a Infinity G35… NO, the G35 is a way better overall car… is the Evo a better car than a less expensive 05 Mustang GT… NO. Is the Evo better than a SRT-4, YES.

13.6s 1/4 mile is very good for an automatic GT, a very low 13’s is very likely with the manual GT, this car is going to be about 1 second faster than the 350Z. BTW, the 350Z is a better overall car than the Evo :p

Also, Yes, the Evo can produce 1/4 mile times close to cars with 350hp, that is because its AWD system that helps it to get off the line really easy as oppose to car with a lot of HP that spin the rear tires very easy when trying to take off, a problem that is easily solve with sticky tires. However, from the roll, where AWD is just robbing power instead of helping, the Evo is as fast as any other car with 220 horses at the wheels. If it wasn’t because the AWD system, the Evo would be a 15 sec car in the 1/4 mile.

BTW, the Evo is a low 13's car in the 1/4 mile, that is where the 05 Manual Mustang GT is going to be, so they would be even in the 1/4 mile, but from a roll the GT is going to destroy the Evo, just do the math, the Evo is 220 horses at the wheels and the new GT is close to 280 horses at the wheels.

Heh this is a funny thread indeed. Srt-4's Evo's, lol. Track racing and 1/4 racing are entirely two different animals. I say 13's are a good time for the new 05 stang, but yet I need to see it on the track. Logically it should be able to run those times, with basically about 270 to the wheels after divetrain loss.

And for all those Evo's and Srt-4's, 350z, and WR4's ect..all of them are fast until they line up on the track in the 1/4..Then basically most of those are reading my plates..

Let the excuse making from (insert 05 hater here) begin.

But I'll temper my enthusiam until I see it on paper(or pixels)and until I start seeing people back these times up on their own. But if it's true everybody go find and hug a Team Mustang engineer because they have truly made THE best mass production Mustang ever.
Nice job.

Um.. I know of a few production mustangs that might be a bit better, or equal too the 05. :nice:

Here's something that might interest those ricer wannabee's who are baggin on the new Mustang...

Everyone's familiar with the new 'Drifting' craze, right? Well the new Mustang is probably going to be the best off the lot car in terms of horsepower and suspension under $27k for this particular sport.

Use of a solid rear axel is a huge plus when looking for a vehicle to get into this arena, that coupled with 300 ponies to start and you're looking at a vehicle that's gonna give all the existing rice machines a honest run for their money!

Add a rollcage, a supply of extra tires and you are set!!!
