I'm sure that price is for the tried and true V-1 S-trim, old technology, straight cut gears.
Mike Vortech has a much better line of blowers out in the SQ model of the S-Trim, helical cut gears (quieter) better bearings, more efficent, etc...but they cost about $1000 more if I am correct.
My biggest issue with the Vortechs is the tension system sucks, belts almost always slip, and the 1 bolt holding tensioner just doesn't work very well. Most guys crank the belt tension which only causes premature front bearing wear and failure. I think atleast now the S-trims come with the good brackets which flex less then the old style.
The Novi 2000 is a better more efficent blower, should make more power, and has decent brackets.
A Procharger has dual tensioners and since the stpe up ratios are different they typically run a much larger pulley which helps as well, more surface area for the belt. They also have the best bearing system and shaft support by design, a much better blower and very efficent. I also like that they have a line of self contained blowers so the oil is seperate from the rest of the motor if you pop a head gasket or have an issue. The brackets are very sturdy on any of the kits, and for a street car the intercooler makes a lot of sense. The install is a little more time consuming.
I have installed all of the above manufactors and I can honestly say the Procharger cars impressed me the most. That is why I also went with a Procharger for my build. My buddy recently added the S-trim to his car (he got it for a great deal with lots of extras) upon tappinf the oil pan for the drain he must have missed a small piece of metal (he had the tap packed with grease, flushed it all out and ran a magnet through it) and it took out the motor, I just finished a 331 for him... After looking around I found this has happened to quite a few people, although I have NEVER ran into that issue personally.
Most of the kits come with FMU, you tell them what inj you are running when you buy the kit to get the intial disc matched to your injector, then go from there.
