Official Tremec 3650 Issues Thread

Do you know how your dealer determined the build date? I recently had the TSB peformed but reverse gear no longer worked after it was done. Consequently, the dealership gave me a new transmission. I asked them to confirm it has the revised parts, but apparently they could not determine the build date.

Any help would be most appreciated, as I am about 600 miles away from being out of warranty, and I want to guarantee this thing is corrected. The dealership service manager was nice about it and assured me it would most likely have the updated parts, but I want definitive proof. Thanks!

If you check back on these posts a number of pages the updated tranny starts with 3R instead of 2R.

Does anyone know exactly what the "special tool" is that is needed? I'd like to give the guys a heads up before I take mine in so they don't have to jimmy rig something to get it to go back together. I wonder if it has something to do with 5th gear as there have been some problems with it after the fix. Thanks

Well 30 degrees this morning and the car sat out all night. It shifted great, same as when it's warm. The 3R part number is the one they put in my car. It must have the updated parts. All the clunking is gone too. I live in Kentucky

don't the cobra's and bullit models have 6-spd tranny's? Do these have issues as well???

03+ Cobras get the T-56, which a totally different design that's been around for at least 10 years in other cars. They have had time to work out the bugs.

The Bullitt has a 5-spd and was the first American car to recieve the T-3650. Ford Falcons got the same trans down in Australia. I wonder how they are doing??

Keep us posted with the colder weather on the way. I'm curious to see how your tranny works with temps around 20 degrees....

Mine is shifting GREAT since the fix. It has been about 30 at night and before if it got below 50, it would shift like crap.

I FIXED IT MYSELF!!!!

Listen. I did this to mine after the partially successful rebuild last spring and the problem went away. Seeing that is winter here in MI, mine was acting up again (yes, after the rebuild). Brought it to a new dealer and they gave me the NTF, "it's normal" line.

So I took it home, got 4 jack stands, and put it away for the winter. Problem solved. No more grinding for me as I'm driving my buttery smooth 182,000 mile winter beater Altima with a 5 speed.

3650 fluid

Here is what i dont get... Tremic told me to use dextron III or mobil1 Synthetic atf at a 3.2qt level. yet all there emails and contacts with people say do not use synthetic fluid. personally i think they either have stock in Mobil 1 or they dont know what the hell they are talking about. How could one brand of synthetic be ok but every other type of synthetic not be recommended. Something is seriously wrong with the tremic guys. You know what. I think the dont know how to solve our problems. My 1988 sentra with 226,000 miles shifted better than this thing and never ever grinded. :nonono: Im considering trading the dam vert in for either an auto or going back to ***
