Tremec trans info, please

Ok first I'm new here but not really just been a long time and I had to start under a new login, I can't remember all my old info. I just bought a 88GT in near perfect condition. Fairly stock save for the guy says it has a tremec TKO and has 3.73 gears. I can tell the gears are there but how can I prove the trans is a TKO? I wouldn't want to pull it just to find out  so can anyone tell me if I can check otherwise. Thanks in advance

Thanks any idea what numbers I'm looking for? I mean will it say TKO or Tremec. If I remember my old mustang t-5 said borg warner but I don't remember where it said that at :( Hey one more thing. It has been a while since I had a mustang but it seems the trans moves quite a bit when I get out of the gas and first hit it,normal or could it maybe a trans mount or something wearing?

It will say tremec on the side somewhere. Check the motor mounts. But it will move some from the torque of the engine.

Pull the shifter boot off and see how many bolts are holding the shifter to the trans. 6 = tremec and 4 = t5

Now once you verify that and if it's 6 bolts, to find out if its a tremec tko or a tremec 3550, you'd have to pull the trans out and see how many splines are on the input shaft. 10 = 3550 and 26 = tko.

Keep in mind also that the tremec t5's also have tremec written on the side. So that isn't a guarentee that it is a tko or a 3550. The shifter boot idea is a good one. That is probably the easiest way.

Or... You could do it the easy way... Pull the drive shaft and count the output shaft's splines... T5/3550 = 28, TKO = 31. :D I'm sure there is a tag on teh trans somewhere were you can check the numbers by e-mailed TTC and ask them to verify what trans it is.

Hello,

look at the right side on the tranny. There is a
metal plate with the part number.
The number must be 2600708 for a TKO and
2600682R for a 3550.
Look at my homepage for more details.

i hope that help you
