Is their a defacto standard or best CAI for the terminators?

I'm thinking of getting a Steeda ...but not sure it's the best....and is it worth the money...$200 for 10hp. Is it that much better then say just swaping the existing cone for a K&N?

The JLT, the K&N FIPK, or the Steeda are all great choices. There really is no "defacto" standard, but if you took a poll I think more Cobra owners choose the FIPK over anything else... although the JLT is running a pretty close 2nd these days. The JLT is less expensive than the FIPK and you can get it painted to match your car! The FIPK is the only C.A.R.B. certified CAI available as far as I know if that's makes any difference.

..and by the way... you'll most likely see more than a 10RWHP increase going from your stock airbox/drop-in K&N to a full CAI like those mentioned above. Trying to suck air through that little hole on the side of the stock airbox is VERY RESTRICTIVE!

*bows* once again thank you very much UM. "UM" ~ Uber Mustang :)

Ok I'm going to go out and price out the FIPK and the JLT. Is the FIPK Gen II? I seem to recall they had Gen I and Gen II CAI's.

Thanks :)

Question....the firewall or under hood?
I noticed the JLT offers in firewall or under hood.

I had a crappy MAC firewall CAI ..what a pain in the A$$ and hot.....damn that thing was worthless after 5 mins...

So under the hood or firewall for the JLT

interesting comparision of the K&N FIPK and the JLT - scroll down to "Tucker's post #12 "

K&N vrs JLT - note vendors comparision

If you wnat to do it on the cheap a K&N would prolly get you the same hp. I chose the BBK because of the chrome it adds to the engine . I thought It cleaned up the engine bay and had a sharp look to it . From what I have read is all are around 10/15hp so I would say get what you like best ..

JLT - hmmmm smells like goodness.

I'm thinking it's very sexy as well. And if Jay can put some flames on it....boooooyyyy yeah!

I'm thinking JLT has more go go then the FIPK kit as well.

I can strap on a K&N for about $150 but the JLT they way I want it will run me about $235. *shrugs* but then again....those flames are good for resale!

Yep...mo betta bling for sale...I"m getting the 07 GT 500 I'm on the list now....put money down on my list in a few months...*zang*

Okay, I'm not going to get into "which is better" when it comes to the JLT or FIPK. They are very close to each other performance wise.

You do know that "Tucker" is a.k.a. "Jay", right? I think JLT is Jay Tuckers initials actually! I may be wrong on that though.

You metion an under-hood model or a firewall model. It's not really "firewall", it's "fender". JLT makes 2 different CAI's for the 03/04 Cobra. One is a CAI and the other is an RAI. The RAI is comparable to the K&N FIPK as far as both are being open element/under hood style intakes.

The JLT CAI is an "in-fender" unit and really cleans up the appearence of the engine bay by relocating the MAF & filter into the fender where they can't be seen. Keep in mind though this makes servicing the filter a pain in the butt! Plus I don't think there is a measurable difference between the CAI and RAI as far as HP & TQ are concerned.

As for the K&N being a Gen I or a Gen II... I don't think you'd be able to find a Gen I if you looked. They are not being made any longer so any FIPK you order will be a Gen II.

Yep my bad I ment fenderwell...and yes I had a true CAI a Mac on my 99 GT...what a HUGE pain the A$$ no butts about it. I agree on the clean look. *thumbs* I think I may see about getting it painted custom. If he will do it...I will get the CAI if not I will probably just get the K&N unit.

Yep UM knows what he is talking about

I know Tucker has painted units ready to ship. I've also seen a few custom painted ones too, but I can't remember if Jay painted those or if the end user did? Can't hurt to ask though! I think he can even have one painted in Mystichrome if need be!

Can't go wrong with the K&N FIPK or JLT CAI/RAI. I preferred having the coolest stream of air possible all the time, that's why I went with the JLT CAI.

I was going to get the JLT CAI myself, but looking at the dyno sheets on the site, it seemed that despite the MAF being located before the elbow the CAI still tends to run rich. So I decided to go with the RAI and plan on building a heat shield to go around the filter (the one you can get from JLT just doesn't look like it will do much) as well as run a pipe from the right unused air inlet on the bumper up to the hole in the fenderwell to help blow some cold air in there. Besides, I don't like having those air inlets just sit there and do nothing. :nice:
