I am having a wierd and very loud howling noise coming from my AOD. It happens when starting out from a stop, and goes away if I let off the gas, it also goes away after I get up to speed.

ITs a brand new Lentech Strip terminator w/ brand new PI Stallion 3200 stall non lock converter. It sounds very metallic like a squeal or howl, any ideas?

Is your tranny rebuilt? New? Or is it original? The noise that you are probably hearing is the clutch packs grinding down to their last milimeters of metal. If you pull the pan and look at the fluid, I can bet it will be black from all the metal that is being dumped from the clutches.

Both the transmission and converter are both brand new with less than 75 miles on it. I did some research and found out that that noise is typical of converter/pump failure.

What would cause pump or converter failure on a brand new tranny with absolutely NO hard drving!?

I would also make sure that it is not a rearend bearing or something else back there. Those noises can come through the driveshaft and sound like the tranny. Put the car up on jackstands and idle it in gear. Maybe you can isolate the problem. Is your fluid level correct? From what I hear Lentech will work with you. Also if you had a shop put it in get to them soon. I can't remember if that tranny has the TV cable on it. If that is not hooked up it can ruin things in a hurry.
Just some ideas for you. Let us know what comes of it.

Thanks guys, the transmission I have is not pressure modulated, ie: no tv cable. I am certain that its coming from the tranny. I will give PI and Lentech a call tomorrow and see whats up. Both Precision Industries and Lentech have been very coperative in the past so we'll see what they say and let ya know! Thanks again.
