I downloaded the file with the dimensions for the 66-67 GT350 stripes. I had these painted on. The car is Sonic Blue and the stripe color is the stock wheel paint.

How did you guys determine how wide to paint them? The only reason I ask is because STANMAN's are wider....centered almost perfectly over the foglamps. Not saying ones better than the other....just curious. They both look great :nice:

Decison on stripes

Basically, I feel that the wider stripes dominate the lines of the car and I did not want that. I was pretty sure that lines were close to the 67-68's. I have the technical document from Shelby American for painting stripes on the 66-67 GT350 and had the stripes painted according the dimensions provided.

They are 9-3/4 on bumper.
Start at 9-3/4 on the hood and get wider 10-1/2 at the windshield.
10-1/2 down to 10-3/8 over the roof front to back.
10-1/8 over the trunk down to 10 at bottom of the rear bumper.

I like Stanman's the best!! I think those are the proportions I want. Very sweet looking.

As my GT is (will be) black, with dark windows, I want dark silver for the stripes.
sort of understated cool y'know. I want both the racing stripes and the side stripes.

I will probably do decals... my guess is $500-$600 to do the same thing in vinyl. Maybe less.

I've had a lot of experience with decals on my MINI Coopers, and by far the coolest thing is that you can completely change them after a while if you want a change. It's certainly less expensive, and I think less risky maybe, because if something doesn't look right you can peel it right off. With paint, you must be very sure about color, placement, etc..!

The visible difference with decals is mainly that the film is not as glossy as paint.. some may have issue with that, but I don't.

You polish right over decals just like the painted surfaces, but when if/when you remove them 1-2 years later there will be a 'ridge' where polish has collected along the edge of the stripe. A bit of Dawn detergent and focused washing will remove it no problem.

I had a checkerboard roof on my first MINI Cooper that I removed after a year (and I polished that car every week  ) Total removal, clean up and re-polish time was 3 hours. Generally 3 years is max lifetime for decals.

For those with the cash, if you are certain of what you want, then paint! If you are not so sure, or not so financially able, decals are the ticket IMO.

i agree about the painted stripes

Redfire with dark Red stripes

The stripes look black until it is in the sun. Then you see they are dark red metalic. It is exactly what I wanted.
