So I was out at Grudge night this past weekend to get new and better times in the cobra. This time I bought a set of Nitto 555R's 275x17 on my stock 17's.

My first run was my best run of the night. I did a brakestand in 1st gear to heat them up after backing in the waterbox and pulling forward. I launched the car at 2,000rpm with 28psi in the tires.

13.7@103mph with a 2.1 60ft.

A buddy droped my tires pressure down to 18psi on each side and another buddy ran my car the second time. He did a burn out in second and seemed to heat up the tire better and luanched the car at 3,000rpm.

13.3@104mph on a 1.9 60ft.

My second (3rd for the car) and final run was a better 60ft. but same mph and lower et. overall

13.8@103mph on a 2.0 60ft.

I was shifting at 7,000rpm and my buddy shifted at 6,500rpm.

He feels there is a drop in power above that rpm range.

Does this sound right? Did my car run average times for it's mods?

Anyway I plan on going out again and get more pratice and nail my launches better. I also plan on removing the IMRC's befor emy next trip and having the car re-tuned.

Any input or suggestions welcomed :nice:

It's all in the launch. That 13.3 is what the car should be running all day....

You do need a second gear burn out to really heat up those Nitto's to make them work. You should be able to get a 1.8 60ft out of them. I ran mine between 18-22 psi when I was closer to stock still. With a 3-3.5K RPM launch, feathering out the clutch, you should be able to ge a low 13 second slip.

It's been awhile, but I believe I was shifting around 6500-6700RPMS for the 1-2 shift, then 6800RPM's for the others. I make power all the way to 7000RPM's now so I shift at 7K on all shifts. Your power is probably peaking around 6300RPM now (if you have a dyno chart you will see the curve drop around there).

Good luck.

I was looking at the dyno ;ast night from 2 years ago and my friend who drove the car pointed it out that they graph starts to drop about 6,500 which he says why he was ablt to get a 1mph more then me :nice:

yes pratice is what I need..........thanks for the bit advice

that sucks. my car's only got 285-290 to the wheels you think then?? i was hoping for 13.2's at the track this time around with me and my friend driving. what's that like 350hp? waht you think my torque is at?

i dunno but the gears will be in this week or next. deffff before i go to the track. thatd be a waste of time. wish i had dr's or slicks to borrow to see 12s. who knows. as long as i smoke imports on the street its ok. :D

I've got a '98 Cobra vert. Last May I ran it with Goodyear F-1 street tires on it, got a 1.8 60' and ran a 13.20 @ 105.8 mph. I had less done to my car than you, but i have more now. I will be running this weekend looking for 12's.

You should not bother taking your IMRC's out, you will only lose low-end power, quite significantly. Go get an Excal2, start playing with tunes, and work on your launch. Your car is not running bad at all!:nice:

By the way, when I ran it before, paying with shift points, my car went faster shifting at around 6300 RPMs, I have 4.10's.

True, you will loose low end grunt below 3,400rpm. the car will be launched about there-3,500rpm so low end is not what I need. this car is not a daily driver. The gears will make up for the extra kick I need to launch the car with. I was discussing with another cobra owner and he was telling me if my peak power is around 6,500 I should try shifting at 6,700rpm as so the rpms don't drop as low.
