You should be able to change the clutches, etc, in the posi with the diff in the car.

Look around on here and other sites, you should be able to find detailed directions. Its not hard, but have plenty of time available. I don't recommend trying to add extra clutches, but I would try to shim the final clearance correctly, so the spider gears go back in easily. Make sure you have some friction modifier and gear oil to refill when done.

well its just a extra chunk that i have from a package deal i got.. came out of a 86 gt.. guy replaced the 86's with a 31 spline unit front auburn.. i just got his rebuild kit and traction lock for free so i thought it would be nice to have a fresh posi to put in the new rear end when ever it comes lol

It's easier to do with the gear out of the car. Just remember where the shims go, it's not hard. Also you can leave out a metal clutch on each side and put one of you best fiber clutches from the old set in place of it. There should be a thread on this if you do a search. It's been a long time since I've done this so sorry I'm not more detailed, but you can do this in an hour or so.

Check out http://www.angelfire.com/theforce/5ohcpa/cpa5ohtech001.htm for a good write-up on how to do it. The article on the website shows it being done with the Traction Lok out of the car, but it can be done while installed.

That website is the best resource that you are going to find. It walked me throuh it with no problem. Read it and print what you think you will need during the work. I had no problems at all.

yea it seems to go into every detail.. exactly what a novice rear end guy needs lol i can take one out and put one it but i dont mess with gears lol i just ran outside and found my raytech rebuild kit for the rear with shims and bearings and stuff but i cant find my traction lock kit yet.. but i didnt dig to deep lol i have 3.73's for FRPP to put in so good thing he goes into detail about that to!

It is a peice of cake!! The hard part is geting the "s" spring back in.
I suggest rebuilding with the alternate stacking order if you plane on drag racing. Just make sure you shim it right.
Also, with the bolt the holds the retainer shaft in, Make sure you heat it up a ton. my'n snaped on me and i played hell geting it out!
