Well, i finally went and bought my Bassani Catback today. I fugured it wouldn't be too bad after cutting the old catback. Well, i was a bit wrong...

I had the on jack stands so i had a good amount of room but it was still a biotch to get the SawzAll under there and cut the pipes. Then came the hangers. The ones for the tips were easy but the muffler hangers were a PITA to get to. The pipes and muffler interfered and made it alot harder. After all that was off with the help of liquid wrench and metal shavings all over, the Bassani install began. At first, it was fine and the section connecting to the midpipe was simple. Then it came time to snake the new pipes over the rear axle....game over. My buddy and i tried for almost an hour and there was no way it was gonna work. I tried everything short of unbolting the shocks to get more rooom. I finally gave up and drove to a muffler shop with no tips and the exhuast coming straight out of the mufflers.
They got it on a lift and it took them a bit but the unbolted a shock and wiggled things around and finally got it. I was pissed because the hangers arent welded perfectly straight so the tips arent straight, they both point in. I guess when i have extra time one day, i'll get under there and move crap around to see if i can get them lined up. Overall, the Bassani sounds good, but not yet loud enough for me. I know it will break in and i'll be going with an O/R X-Pipe in a few weeks, so i'm not too worried about it.
If you plan on installing a catback yourself, get an electric reciprocating saw, some liquid wrench, 10mm socket for the hangers, another socket for the nuts connecting to the midpipe that i dont remember:nice:, and hopefully some lucky and ingenuity to get the piping over the axle. Good luck

SIDENOTE: I now know what people mean when they say the exhuast gets deeper when its dumped. It was really loud and droned from 1k-4k rpm on the way to the shop lol

I went through the same thing that you went through. The pipes wouldn't line up to the mufflers no matter what we did. After about an hour we finally got them to line up good enough. It was also close to the frame. We had to move it around a few times to get it so it looked good from the back while not hitting the frame. I guess it was worth it though. Wait until you get the o/r x-pipe on there. It's not real loud at idle, but loud enough. When you get on it though, it is LOUD and

I feel your pain. It took me several hours to install my Magnaflow catback. Trying to wiggle those exhaust pipes over the rear axle was a real joy! You have to place the car on jack stands and lower the rear axle low enough to get the exhaust pipes over the axles. It was all worth it when I started the car up! Pearl02.

Well, the catback is definitely getting louder as it breaks in. Also, i think its louder than i first thought becuase its just quiet inside the car. My buddies told me it was pretty loud for just a catback. I can't wait for the x-pipe:D

Wow, all i gotta say is this catback is worth EVERY PENNY. Had my friend drive it today and i stood and listened to him drive away.....such a unique sound. It is definitely ALOT louder on the outside than it seems to be inside the car. Another satisfied Bassani customer:D

thats true when i first heard it from the inside i was like ok it's still kinda quiet but friends kept telling me it was pretty loud, so i had one of them drive away hard and i was surprised on how loud it gets  :nice: :nice: :nice:

To get the bassani over the axle I backed up on my ramps. Then put my jack under the car and lifted the body just enough to hold it while I unbolted the shock on that side. Jacked the body up another inch or so and let ramp support the wheel and axle. Pipe went right over after that easy.Hooked it all together for that side and lowered the body enough to rebolt the shock on. The took the jack off. Rinse and repeated for other side.

i just had the car up on jackstands with the rear tires removed, i didnt have to remove the shocks or anything, just had to wiggle it in there from the rear it was quite easy to do
