Stage 3 cams

I've decided that my next mod is gonna be Crower stage 3 cams. I was wondering if I would have any piston to valve clearance issues or any other problems if I had them installed? Which valvesprings can I run with the cams-Crower, Manley or Comp? Do I need to buy aftermarket cam gears? What is the maximum safe rpm I can run on my stock shortblock with the cams?

Those cams are alittle much for the mods you have don't you think? Bigger isn't always better...

If your cams are degreed properly, you shouldn't have PTV issues. The max you want to rev your stock block on a regular basis is around 6200 rpm, just make sure your oil level is always spot on, or you'll run into serious issues. I can't comment on the springs though, maybe someone else can help. I do agree with DropTop though, these cams may be too much for your current setup.

I would say thats too much also, I thinh the stage 2s would be more than enough. Espically if its a DD.

Means without a good set of high flowing heads, good exhaust and a good intake, a stage 3 cam is a waste.

I got comp cam XE270AH-13. It's like stage 2 cams and I am very happy with it. I get props allmost every stop lite and yes it's my DD

You are going to kick yourself if you buy and install stage 3 cams on your car. You dont have enough done to your car to get any use out of them. You are going to lose alot of bottom end hp and torque. Stage 3 cams are only good for high reving engines and yours is stock so you will not be able to rev to where you will get a gain. Also you will need ported heads, upgraded intake, upgraded oiling system and longtubes. Dont forget a forged shortblock

Stick with the stage 2's

Did you not change out your springs when you put in stage 2 cams? manley nextek are the best springs right now.

I am comparing vt stage 2's to the crower high lift stage 2's. the numbers are from vtengines and from crower.com. here they are.

vt stage 2 na are .560/.575 lift, 225/235 .050 duration, 108 lsa.

crower stage 2 high lift is: .559/.570 lift and 208 lobe 212 over 224 valve 228 with duration at .050. Now they do have an adv duration number which is 254 lobe 258 and 268 valve 272.

I don't understand the numbers. I see that one is more than the other but what does that mean. Thanks. As for the crower cams I see that they have two different durations but not sure what that means. Thanks.

There are a few threads on the Fidanza gears....read up first before you buy them.

DO NOT BUY the Fidanza Cam gears or the Comp Cam gears for that matter, they are the same thing. There is people who have lost their motors due to the Fidanza cam gears breaking, causing PTV contact.

Stick with your current cams man. But the Manley Nextek's are great springs and support up to .580 lift, where the comp springs only support up to .550 lift.

You already have stage 2s and you want to upgrade to stage 3s now? That sounds like a HUGE waste of money if you ask me....unless you are doing the install your self...but parts alone sounds like a waste of money. Put the time and cash elsewhere

yes, I saw those threads on MD. I retract my statement, I didn't know they were that craptacular. A good concept, but a very sub-par quality product. I edited my post to reflect this info, don't want people buying those and destroying their motors
