Torque boxes

I hear alot of ppl talking about reinforcing the torque boxes,
I have no Idea what they are talking about.
I'm sure I could figure it out if a crawl under my car and take a good look but would anyone care to explain?

Well, the pics are there.

If you don't re-enforce them, and launch hard with slicks or lots of torque, you run the risk of ripping them, and causing LOTS of damage to the body and frame.

Thanx I figured it was something like that.
Currently I have to Fix My pass.side upper rear control arm.
I launched one day on street tires and I ripped it out of the frame.
Clean break I tore the ear that the C arm bolts inside.
It doesn't look like it will be much fun to fix.

Fabing and welding won't be a problem,If i knock the dust out of my wallet There should be something in it that says I have my tickets for welding. LOL
But i wouldn't have these problems if I didn't break stuff in the first place.

Make sure the guy that puts them in welds up the boxes first, removes the control arm and welds that area up too, some will get cheap (like my guy) and just weld the outside and the plate and then you have to go back and get em welded up right PITA

Would having a metal worker fab something similiar to what is in the pics work just as well? How thick is are the plates that in the interior side? Are those factory bolts/nuts that are in the pics going into the body, if not should regular bolts be used or grade 8+?

You dont have to have the torque box reinforcements welded in. Get some grade 8 hardware and bold those suckers in with an air tool, and they wont move at all. I guarantee you.

I was skeptical about not having them welded in as well. I beat on my car all summer and they not even as much as cracked the paint I painted them with after the install around the edges where the flat plate bolts to the floor.

Welding up the torque boxes isnt necessary either. Its extra insurance, but if your subframe connectors are steedas, like mine, they come with a torque box reinforcement plate you weld in the torque box area, then weld the subframes to it. Welding the thin sheet metal around the torque boxes could end up weakening it if not done properly.

Where do the 2plates with only 2holes go?

And the single large bolt closest to the ground is that already in the torque box or has to be drilled through?

The plate with the 2 holes is to reinforce the Upper control arm mount.

And yes the single large bolt is already in the torque box, ITS WHAT HOLDS YOUR CONTROL ARM TO THE T.B.
