questions about Patriot Stage III 4.6L heads

I ve really been looking in to getting the patriot heads but i have some questions before i decide to get them. What cams would go best with this setup? Is there any supporting mods that i should do so i dont mess anything up? Is there anything better than patriot? Thanks -Steven

From the info available on the web, there seems to be many better alternatives than the Patriots:

MPH, Steen, Renegade, VT, Fox Lake just to name a few.

Sure, you'll pay more, but you usually get what you pay for.

Patroit cylinder heads are the worst choice you could
possibly make. :nonono:
I can't even count how many people have had problems
with the Patroit heads.
Go with VT their customer service is excellent. :nice:

ok.. all ppl say is that patriot is bad, but can somebody please tell me what is wrong with the product?? nobody has told me one thing yet.. im not sticking up for patriot, but when nobody has said anything, and their quaility and heads looks pretty good to me for the $$, why not? just to compare, patriot stg 2's off american muscle with the discount are $1200, and you get to keep your heads! off mph, their heads are $1950, and you cant keep your heads! so for patriot, you can sell the heads and get like 4-500 for em and your total is roughly 750, and your getting new heads ported polished with ss valves and high lift springs. mph you lose about 4-500 cause they get your old heads, so thats like 2300 dollars your losing out on, almost 3 times as much for the only ADVERTISED difference for only a few cfm. just not worth it to me, esp cause our motor is small and wolnt make much morepower anyways.

btw..saleen.. u got a badass car, what kind of #'s u make?

back to the original question.
I'd suggest at least a stg 2 type cam. Are you staying N/a or you going with a power adder? If so which one?
With better flowing heads, and bigger cams. Gears are a REAL good idea.
IF your auto your going to want to beef it up a lil and improve shift points.
With Cams your going to need a tune. I suggest a GOOD SAFE dyno tune.

Honestly as well as our heads flow stock I don't see the point in ported heads unless your going with some good cams, which means a tune.

patroit has had quality control issues from day wth ther heads. problems wth valve guides, valve seats and valves. stay away from them unless you like having engine issues or you want to install a "zipper" on your engine. as suggested above VT, MPH and Steen are about the best in the country.

you have been warned.

With MPH you keep your own heads. I have the 2.5's on mine and I still have my stockers sitting on the bench.

You do get what you pay for.

just checked mph and it definatly says "cores are required" twice on the page for stage 2.5 ported and ploished heads.

and randy, thanks for acctually posting some info, if i ever do get serious about their heads ill call them and bring up those points and tell you guys what they say/ if their doing anything different. i just cant justify 2300 dollars for heads, and im sure there are many who agree.

you must not have searched hard for info on Patriot because the problems have been reported here and on numerous other forums with Gunnar from Patriot involved in alot of the threads. He will deny and rebute every claim because he doesn't want to lose business and honestly he has done wonders to get the problems fixed with the customers faulty valve guides etc but do you want to chance it or pay a few dollars more for a product that has no issues ever... Patriot may be standup guys and repair the bad product but they don't pay for new gaskets/head bolts/and labor not to mention loss of vehicle... It always comes down to you get what you pay for!!!! However the cheapness of some people will always amaze me so we will continue to see people complain.

BINGO.....you hit the nail-on-the-head:nice: gaskets & bolts are @$500.00 if the heads fail, not to mention the labor cost of instalition or the risk of damage to your short block:(

if you were buying exhaust, or CAI, or T/B plenum, or spark plugs, id say what ever blows your skirt up; But with things such as gears and heads and anything that is required for your engine to run, is under stress and heat, or is a bitch to install, stick with whats proven to work. I mean, thats why were on this forum right? not to ask people's opinion then tell em they're wrong. I tried that w/ richmond gears, now i have FRPP gears in my diff. these guys arn't making stuff up for the fun of it. Just my 2 cents:)

Our stage 2's are $1995 outright and Stage 1 are $1695 outright. If you supply the core heads..take another $300 off. Hope this helps.

i guess i wolnt be doing heads anytime soon.. i just wonder why, u guys say they will fix their problems (patriot), but why wouldnt they fix and correct the problems they know they have on their new product? beats me :bang:

its poor quality control and workmanship...

Patriot Performance is about 5 miles from my house, here in a little town of 5,000 people in Alabama.. They started out with a good thing making a quality product, but when their demand went through the roof, quality fell through the floor.
