seat belt rant

Every Mustang Ive ever owned has had crappy seatbelts:mad: I usually toss it on the seat or behind the seat when I get out. I hate when my dad drives the car cause he almost always closes it in the door:nonono:

I completely agree. It's problems like this that Ford lets go on and on that makes you wind up scratching your head. My 70 Boss 302 was the first year for the shoulder harness style that was engineered to be put back into a paper clip in the headliner. I mean who thought of that? Then with the Fox body, Ford came up with the bright idea that that the seat back should have a plastic guide type holder (that is useless by the way) mounted to it. Again, who thinks of this crap? This guide thing has continued on for 25 years! Doesn't anyone at Ford sit in their cars and drive them? Ever tried to reach back for your seat belt while driving to buckle up? It's like somebody must have stole my seat belt cause it's not here!
Sorry for the rant, but this issue has always bugged the crap out of me.

You can get a replacement belt system, that has the updated part. I replaced the driver side becasue I took the tensioner apart to see if I could fix it, well it didn't work out. I went to a local body shop and they ordered me a new one from Ford for $75. It used to be a TSB on it. But being out of warranty and all, it doesn't matter. It wasn't much money anyways.

Add another for the seatbelt being a big P.O.S.

50% of the time it's twisted up.

I spend way too much time fixing it and checking for damage after I shut it in door because it's not retracting.

The seatbelt problem is liveable (sp?). The TR-3650 however, even after the TSB and finally settling on a fluid is the most annoying aspect of any automobile I have ever owned. That makes me scratch my head.

That makes me scratch my head and the fact that ford is still using the POS. The should offer a 6 speed upgrade when new, they are stupid not to and it just shows the lack of talent of the marketers they have working for them. Im an electrician not a marketer and even I can see that. No wonder the big 3 are going belly up, ford doesnt realize its the people like us that keep the mustang alive. Without it, its just metal, glass and plastic.

I am telling you, the fix for the seatbelt is a new assembly from Ford. THATS IT. You can get ahold of Randy and order a new assembly. It fixed mine and plus I got a pretty new belt. Its just 3 torx bolts to remove the whole assembly. Hell, you can use an allen wrench if you want too. Don't try to take apart the retract mechanism, you won't be able to get it back together easyily and not worth it to mess up the seatbelt.
