I have a 66 coupe. 3 years ago i broke my back and now its really hard for me to drive my car. Has anyone put newer seats in an older car?

You can put Recaro Elite 2000s (I think is what they're called) from Jegs in there and I hear they feel great. A lot of people put in later model seats, but it might take some fab work. Shouldn't be too bad though

Watch out for seats on Ebay. A friend of mine bought some off ebay from some "dealer" out of the south. When he opened the box he nearly passed out from the smell. Remember the big weather event down there? Well all those interiors of all those flooded cars are showing up on Ebay.

How big are you (height, weight, waist size)?

I'm a big guy and Procars are too little for me (6'4", 275, 40") in the area of the kidneys. What I mean is I can't feel my ancles after ten minutes of them.

I can see that being a problem if you are a big guy which I am not, they are nice and snug on me-I am 6'1" 170lbs 33" waist. Although my Dad who is about your size likes them, but his daily driver is a corvette so I he is probably a bit more used to a tighter fit seat.

Hunsakers. The company is from SoCal and is mainly Baja stuff. These are super comfy and were like $400 to the door for both. Not sure of the price now. I think they went up a bit.

Those seats look good.....and not too bad on price. Were they difficult to install or require a lot of fab. I've got a '65 coupe.

I put in 03 mach 1 seats in my 67 coupe. had to go without the seat riser pan so my head wouldnt be banging the roof (I'm 6' tall) It works great and feels so much better than the older seats.

I am lazy and haven't hooked up the power yet, but it would work without a problem. I picked up the seats for $350 and the material to make my seat brackets work was under $50. Good luck.

i had 86 mustang GT buckets in my car only mods i had to do were to drill 2 oles in the seat frame so my stock 69 seat tracks would work on them, after that they bolted right in and are very comfortable. for some reason they seem to be more comfortable than the 88-93 seats, not sure why though because they are almost identical. the 86 seats also have the adjustable knee and thigh bolsters. i plan on buying some inflatable lumbar supports for them when i have them recovered and put them in my 69 cougar. i'm selling the stang so i put a set of 70 mach 1 seats in it and kept the 86 seats for the cougar i'm going to build

Any of the later model Mustang seats are a nice swap. I put Mach 1 seats in my '67 as well, but do not remove the risers and put any seats directly on the floor pan. They are not strong enough. The riser can be shortened to give plenty of head room.

i think the point was that the seat risers are an integral part of the unibody and provide significant stiffness to the car's main structure, especially on a convertible, so it's not just a matter of the seats themselves but the entire body assembly.

Bringing back this thread. I own a 1966 coupe and plan on installing the 3-point shoulder system for the front and rear seats. I was going to add a set of head rests to the stock front seats along w/ the 3-point system. But I was wondering if late model front seats would be a better way to go. These would offer more support, comfort, and I believe a bit safer. I see late model Mach 1 seats would work w/ some modification, would '01 Bullitt seats work as well? They already have the classic look to them. What is the overall view and difficulty in installing a late model set in a classic coupe? Do these late model year seats work for the rear?

I think if you hurt your back and have trouble because of it, a racing style seat is going to make it harder to get in and out of the car. If I was to change my seats, I would go with Fox seats or SN95 seats.
