ok well i am doing some research on this a friend of mine has a 04 gt 5spd 355 gears, well we are talking about putting cams in his car he has just a tbody headers and plenum, he is wanting to put some stage 3 crowers in with there valvesprings and a 125 shot does anybody know about what kind of hp this should make?

That is alot of cam for a stock engine. Low end power will suffer alot and there is more than likely going to be piston to valve issues. Big cams are pointless if the heads can't flow to match the cam. 3.55 gear is way too low for even a "stage 2" cam. Other mods are needed to support cams like better flowing intake and a dyno tune is required.

Go with cams that will benefit the engine and not big cams that will kill low end power for a few more hp up top. Hope this helps.

:nice: +1!!

crower stage 3's are .590 gross lift intake and .601 gross lift exhaust plus added duration. That's alot of cam in my opinion, and the "supercharged stage 3" is even bigger. Compare those to Cushman's and you will be surprised. Most modular experts will tell you bigger is not always better when it comes to the 2v modular.

stage 3 crowers are like stage 2.5 comps or VT's. What's with all the stage II/III cam threads where people just through them on on a whim?

Maybe they have been reading a lot of 4v threads. It seems pretty common with the 4v guys to throw in a set of stage 3 cams and their stock or lightly modified engines pick up good power from them. However on a 2v GT with stock heads a stage 3 cam is just wasting money. Stage 2 is more than enough.

:stupid:

Tell your buddy to stick with stage 2's and get some gear in the car.

That cam is too big unless you plan on alot more mods down the road. Tone it down in cam choice is my opinion. In camshafts, sometimes less is more. It's all about area under the curve and useable RPM.

Yeah, there right. I went out and bought comp stage 3's and what a mess. I have piston to valve issues because of the new duration and lift. Know my motor is out and having to port heads, flycut pistons and put back in because I went to big. More money than I wanted to spend. I bought the 278's for the rough idle, not knowing what I was in for. So if hes not wanting to go inside, go with stage 1 or 2s. Also needs 4.10's, my opinion.

I agree with those who said the Stage II's would probably be the best bet. I cannot stress enough how important it is to get the rear end gears changed to match the cams type you want to use. You really should get the 4.10's. It will be worth every penny. In fact, if you have to make a decision between gears and cams, I'd go with the gears first.
