KB on 2008 GT - Any Concerns???

Gentlemen;

I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a KB 2.6L for my 2008 GT. The only thing that's really holding me back at this point is concern about dropping a huffer on a brand new (1900 miles) daily driver.

Has anyone done this to a new car and subsequently had problems? I'd hate for the blower to catastrophically identify a substandard part in the drive-train and then find that Ford says shine on warranty wise. I'd never hear the end of it from my good half.

On the other hand, a rod failure or busted piston might put me in a very solid bargaining position for a 302 short block... then heads and cams, exhaust and an increase in boost... A tranny dump would do the same for a 6 speed.

Always an up side...

edit: removed redundant clause.

my dealer offered me an extended warentee for such an event. And he said i could purchase it anytime before my currect warentee runs up. It covers any and all performance parts no matter what the part or who installed it. "even superchargers and turbos" he was very clear to point that out.

I think it was somewhere in the ball park of $1800 extra i can't rember the length of it though i want to say it was lifetime/extended length ect.? I would defiantly be buying it if i was ready to put a blower on.

I drove it almost daily for about three months then occasionally on exceptionally nice days in the winter (dry roads etc) for about another 4 months. Took it in to the dealer for a complete once over, oil change, and passenger airbag TSB then swapped in my Whipple HO. No more warranty now. Not too worried about it.

I am currently planning a 3V swap into my 95 T-Bird so have purchased an '07 4.6 3V out of a wrecked GT (only 5200 miles). Not sure if that one will get forged internals etc and wind up in my mustang and my current setup will see the bird.

I figure if you want to play with the bull, you've got to expect to feel the horn once in a while.

Go for it...I did mine with only 7,000 miles on it and will never look back!

HEAVYGT, that's one beautiful engine compartment. I read the thread on your install. I hope I don't face the challenges you did, I don't have any local help.

Is yours a daily driver? Looks too pretty to be...

Go for It! I did mine with only 6,000 on the clock. I am pushing 457RWHP on stock internals with my 2.6L KB intercooled Kit. Running 11psi of boost and yes she is my daily driver.

I do take her out to the track quite often. Thursday nights usually, schedule permitting. This past weekend I busted out my best time on ET Streets 11.4 @ 117 MPH with a 1.5 sec 60ft time.

She hasnt given me any problems, I really love my car and the set up so far.

My dealer is also the roush dealer in town too, so maybe that is why they offer a "mod warentee" because they also sell all the roush performance parts. That would put a huge hit to the parts sales dept, if you can't even sell your parts.

The warentee also covers the parts themselves, i.e. the supercharfger itself along with the engine. He said it didn't matter what parts you put on, or who put them on. (this all came from the business manager, NOT THE NO-NOTHING SALESMAN GUY LOOKING FOR A COMMISION CHECK.)

Not a daily driver...pretty much a good wheather weekend warrior.

I barely got my wife's buy-in for a muscle car to begin with given escalating gas prices. If I went back for a daily driver I might face keel hauling...

Maybe I can convince her that a used economy car for $2K would be a good idea.

which dealer did you go to? Was it all roush parts? I want to do either a whipple or kb, and have a roush suspension.
thanks,
Doc

where are you located??

I have a Guy Who runs a Custom truck shop IN Portland that can get Roush, or FRPP as well. and he can be cheaper than the dealer. But he doesn't install.
He is @...
Yankee Custom

If you want to go through the Roush Dealer and have them install it you can and If you need.. send me a PM and i will give you the name and number of the parts guy he does alot of other aftermarket parts as well. Obviously he can get FRPP whipples ect. I will be heading over there in the next day or so for my oil change i bought my car off him a month ago and he said he will hook me up with any parts i need at a decent price, so if you want let me know, i will tell him i have someone looking for some stuff.

Miller Ford in
Sanford Maine.

I am in Cape Elizabeth. This is great to know, Sanford is so close. I really am having a tough time figuring out which super charger to go with, every time I look I see someting more interesting. The kb seems great, but if I look too close, I find other problems. The kb seems to be able to "grow" with the engine...still not sure where I will go with that. My budget just got sent down the drain with a new septic system, so my upgrades will wait another year. My wife also keeps asking if I'd like a shelby...that sets off a whole world of hurt and confusion for me. I am anal about my 06 gt, I can't imagine what I would be like with a shelby. I was drawn to the roush suspension after a roush beat a shelby in a test. Anyway, thanks for the information. Where do you think the best speed shops are in portland? I was into cars years ago, mostly british stuff, I feel like I've gone back to my roots, however the technology has gone way over my head.
Thanks,
Doc
