So if in a world you couldn't use subframe connectors..

I know this is a stupid question. Would a 6 point cage do a good job at keeping the chassis from twisting? Just kinda curious as my subframes on the 98 are messed the hell up from all the jacking done on them from I guess previous owners??? I dont have the money to buy another car or have them straightened at a body shop. I'm just kinda wondering if I should even consider using this car for dragging. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks guys!

I'm kind of confused......

Some pictures would defiantly help in your question:shrug:

And why wouldn't the car be able to be a track car? Are you running slicks w/ A LOT of torque?

Stock, the body does twist slightly , but not THAT much to were it would be a issue with track times......You would have to running some serious #'s for hacing chassis twisting issues......

So, unless your running some very good hp/tq/gears/slicks.....I don't see why it couldn't be a track car:shrug:

EDIT: Ummm ya, I kind of posted w/o reading your mods.......feel dumb, but I do believe that roll cages tighten up the car a bit, but they are mostly used to safety? I'm not sure, after reading your mods, you could defiantly have a problem. Ever think of buying new MM sub frame connectors, their not too bad(200$ installed w/ a good/cheap mechanic). Either way, good luck bro and sorry about posting w/o reading the FULL post/mods. Sweet ride:)

The subframes have been pushed up into the car from what looks like jackstands being positioned wrong or people using the wrong kind of jack to jack the car up. If you look at the subframes when the car is level you can see how bowed into the body of the car they are. You know the subframes are supposed to be flat and in a straight line mine arent. Like I said they have been pushed up into the car and are like a jaged line now. Its hard to describe really but there is no way in hell that subframe connectors will ever fit with out MAJOR work!

I'm asking this now so I dont drop anymore money into this car and it be worthless ya know? I'd like to use slicks on this car but like I said I need reassurance that i'd be ok with a 6 point cage. If not then I'll have to scrap the idea of turning this car into a track car. My original goal with the car was to break into the 10's.

I'm probably making this sound more confusing than it actually is.

I'd say pics are needed here. It almost sounds like the car was in some type of accident. I have seen tons of people jack their car up with the sub frames and never have a problem. If its as bad as ur talking the car either makes 1000000000 horse power or has been hit somewhere along the line and bend the subframe.

If you do a 6 point cage you would want a solid set of SFC's to tie the cage into. If your subframes are so bad you cant install a set of connectors, I'd say you need to take it to a chasis shop to make sure everything is square and aligned properly.

To be perfectly honest, you shouldn't need SFC at all with a properly designed 6-point cage. That's its purpose....to surpass the integrity of the original sub frame.

I'd look into Maxim Motorsports at one of their 4 or 6 point set ups.

A 6pt bar does not negate the need for subframes. The front bars will not prevent the twisting motion of the car. It won't be as bad as not having a roll bar but there is movement.

Something to keep in mind just because you can't feel the car twisting doesn't mean it isn't happening. Take it from someone that has personally ruined a car from this that it does happen. My first 5.0 was a 92 hatchback car. I rarely went to the track but beat on the car alot and over a year and a half I developed a crack in the air pillar between the windshield and window frame. Shortly there after I put subframes in the car and the subframe on the passenger side was off by 1/2" due to things getting screwed up. Forward another year and I put a roll bar in as I has spraying the car now. The subframes got screwed up to do an accident and were cut out. I was going to leave them off because I thought the roll bar would be much stronger. A few months later my door started having problems lining up. Wouldn't close properly. Eventually the mounting points on my seats started cracking. Ended up with new subframe connectors and alot of work to get the floors fixed, and doors realigned to close normally again. The front bars of the roll bar are to keep the front of the car square with the back where it's tied to it's not meant to prevent twisting, until you go to a cage with the cross bar behind the dash.

Any decent chassis shop should be able to remove your subframe connectors, fix or fabricate supports for the existing ones and put in new ones for you. If you are going to spend the money on a roll bar you might as well fix the subframes first and have it all right.

i cant see it being thousands really, especially if u know someone. i, almost positive unless the car was crunched a good body guy can pull out the subframe enough to allow you to install SFC's. then get the cage and forget about it

Thousands?! You need to find a chassis shop and get an estimate. No way it should cost that much unless you are talking about replacing the entire floor. If that's the case run away from that car as fast as you can.
