93 project pics

Thought I'd share some pics of what I have to work with. I've started the body/exterior stuff so you'll notice some stuff already missing like mirrors and belt moulding. Overall the body is very straight, save for a few minor dents and dings. I'll repaint and replace some trim items. Interior is very good, just need to reglue the headliner and clean the front buckets. I'll share my plans for the car when I figure that out.

I plan on repainting it this spring. You can see the clearcoat peeling on the roof. I'm going to try the dry ice method on some hail damaged spots. Other than poor paint, the body is great, no rust whatsoever.

The headliner is falling in the back, I think just regluing it will do the trick.

The wheels are in good shape, after some serious elbow grease.

You can see how dull the door is compared to the body. My dog is very interested in this project as well.

I'll post more pics as this project comes along. I'll be replacing all kinds of weatherstripping, the door belt moulding, tires, adding a radio (Pioneer DEH3000IB), and getting the interior back to mint. It runs and drives great so I'm not touching the engine/drivetrain yet, it has 114k miles so I'll just maintain it and then think about a turbo swap or perhaps a mild carbed 302 in a couple of years. I have to replace the front brakes, already got new rotors and pads so I'll do that when the weather gets better. We're experiencing a premature winter here in East TN so it kind of sucks right now. I put new brakes on my sister's Accord yesterday, the high was 38, normal is 58.

Wow, 10 holes with wheel weights on the outside and original gray valve caps. I still have mine, but don't have them on the wheels right now. looks like a good project. Enjoy the newest mustang fanatic,

Update: Carpet

Not even interested in trying to clean up this mess!

Here's the new vs. old. I like the quality and it was cut exactly right. I also like the fact that the holes were NOT pre-cut. There were several holes I didn't need that the old carpet was pre-cut at the factory, for things like power seat connections. I also took out the factory amp, it was tiny and worthless, so it's gone.

Now, if I could just get lucky and find some mint factory gray tweed front seats.....

Hey nice project car, looks like you've got a really solid foundation there to work with. I restored an 89 dodge daytona and after pulling up the carpet and the head liner I saw how bad the rust problem got. Yours is in really great shape!

Anyways if you plan on painting it yourself I have to warn you that black is a very hard color to deal with unless you're a pro at painting. I did my Daytona in black and although it turned out great by most of the car show guys I hang out with, it wasnt acceptable for me. I cant stand orange peel of almost any sort!

I love your 10 hole wheels, are you going to keep them or do you plan on getting other wheels in the future? I think the 10 hole wheels hide your nicer rotors.

Thanks for the kind words. I have to admit I'm tinkering with the idea of painting it myself. I prepped an '87 black 5.0LX I had one time for paint, all the way up to the point of shooting color. So I don't know if I want to go one more step or not.

Yeah, I think the 10 holes will stay, although I agree with you about covering up nice new rotors. Unfortunately rotors don't tend to stay that pretty for long........

My paint's doin the same thing...on both of my vehicles, unfortunately.

On the Bird, the clearcoat is almost all gone from the roof, and starting to come off the trunk lid. :banghead:

On my truck, it's only peeling off the hood, fortunately, but the rest of the paint on the truck is pretty mediocre anyway (crappy repaint at some point)
